You'll find most chippy's at resorts sell crap, as they know they can rip-off the people as most they'll never see again. You usually find the ones away from the main areas are better.

... this is often the case. But I know of one particular fish 'n' chips restaurant on the seafront at Anstruther in Fife's 'East Neuk' - that's so popular there are always queues of folk waiting to be served in the height of summer. Mmm ... delicious fare ... as I'm sure will be borne out by 'Scottish Bride' who's fortunate enough to reside in this resort.

WE where in Whitby last month for a week, stayed in Robin Hoods Bay in a static caravan for a week. Nice place though I prefer the lakes for the sceanary. I know what you mean about whitby chippies being over priced but its geared towards tourists isn't it. The best one I found was the magpie cafe, north side of the river near the pier. Folk queueing up outside. Saying that though the best chippy is Nicks 400 yards from my house. Better than most coastal establishments, not bad for a chippy in the geographical centre of the UK!

As for national dish its curry isn't it? Or cheese on toast, or anything involving bread. My missus still can't beleive how much bread I eat and she's been here 6 years! Also anything with beer in the title. Or anything involving a spud.
    It's been emontional

The worst fish and chips I have ever had was at Cromer and the best was at Weymouth by the harbour. When its good its unbeatable.

Some of the best Chips can be had on Great Yarmouth market place , there must be 10 stalls selling chips , a 200 year bylaw prohibits them from selling fish !!

The chips are to die for

England can be shameful when it comes to food. Despite producing some of the worlds top Chef's, and having some amazing dishes. We seem resigned to poor quality Fish n Chips, Microwaved Pub Grub, Fast Food or tasteless Greasy Spoon. You have to be very lucky to come across good food, and it's rare to find a Pub now that cooks fresh a good meal. The problem is that people seem to accept this poor standard.
I'm originally from Yorkshire, and on the rare occasions that i'm back visiting family, we struggle to find somewhere thats reasonably priced for a decent meal, and it's rarely British Food.

Steve and Emma, can't believe you visited Whitby and not me in Scarborough, 20 miles further south But your hands were full I went all the way to Bohol and never met Fred, had to make do with three filipina tour guides ...
