And to think ... when touring Western USA - back in 1992 - I'd even been contemplating visiting Hawaii.

    Don't think I'll bother now.

Nothing to worry about there. This is a small lava flow on the same part of the island that has had active flows for years. The people who bought houses and land there knew there was a risk, not a nice thing to happen to them but nobody is surprised.

I used to own a place on the other side of this island, in Waikoloa. I would have no problem visiting there today either - it's 100 miles away and not really any risk. One of the sights I've visited is this volcano and you can take helicopter rides to see lava spewing into the sea, its done this for years. I love Hawaii, and we're planning to visit Maui and Maybe Oahu in early July for my 50th Birthday (really need to get that trip booked!).

If you're worried about Volcano's going nasty then avoid other parts of Western USA - Yellowstone and the area near Mount Olympus, they will be nasty if they 'go off'.

It is one of the biggest and active volcano on the earth and that makes it more attention grabbing hope that don't bother visitors and they keep exploring the wonder of nature.
