    From the Isle of Man Guide to Child Benefit....

    " Also, you may not be able to get Child Benefit if:

    You are subject to immigration control."

    "You are subject to immigration control if:

    The Immigration Office says that your leave to remain is on the condition that you do not have recourse to public funds...."

    However, I get the impression that I can claim the child benefit if my wife can't.

    Yep, you can claim.
    It's only your wife who cannot claim it.
