Concern about the " Philippine epidemic " prompted an editorial this month in the UK medical journal " The Lancet ". It’s worth repeating that it can’t be cured. Treatment increases life expectancy and reduces the risk of complications. However, it’s not only expensive and lifelong, but the antiretroviral drugs needed may also have serious side-effects. Prevention is better than cure in any case !
