Children born in the UK to filipino mothers

Where do these children stand with getting citizenship and being able to own land and house.
We bought a house 10 years ago in the gated community and i would like to think our children would be able to own what we have there.
We are in the Philippines 2-3 times a year for one month spells and we plan to move out there for good in 2.5 years time. Our children will have been born in the UK.

Is your wife a dual national Rory? Usually when they become dual nationals,her kids are included in that process which automatically makes them Filipino citizens...This will make it much easier for them to claim their hereditary rights one day.
Good luck with your move BTW. It's a very smart move IMO given the absolute mess the UK has become.

We have been planning the move for many years and have just been putting everything in place so there are no large bills to deal with when we do go. I was not so happy with the way the UK was going back then but if i could foresee the future i think our choice is by far the better decision.

When my wife got her British citizenship she was dual for a couple of years as her filipino passport still had 2 years left on it. We have not been down to the Philippine Embassy in London to apply for her duel citizenship. We have looked in to it but never got around to it. You think this is advisable to proceed with sooner rather that later? We would have to get her filipino citizenship status back before we left the UK anyway if we are going to be permanently based in the Philippines.

Yes..Get the Mrs to get that done ASAP along with your kids as dual nationals..Phil passport now has 10 year validity so really it's a no Brainer.. I would have also suggested that you apply for the 13a visa in the UK but I'm not sure they entertain that process any longer..Still best to inquire while your at the embassy though...cheers.

In addition to the advice given above, I can add some from my own experience.

The older of my two sons was born in the UK to a Filipina mother (in 1993). I procured a British passport for him when he was only 2 months old, and we were still in the UK.

When he was around 2 years old, and we were then living in the Phils, I applied for what is known as 'Recognition' (as a Filipino Citizen...with full rights) on his behalf. He was granted this 'Recognition' at that time, (mother's birth cert needed, his thumb print, photos, etc), complete with government certification, though he has never bothered to apply for a Filipino Passport, to which he is entitled. He lives in the UK, with no intention of any long stays here in the Phils. I did take his (dual national) younger brother to visit with him in the UK last April/May though. Only 22 years difference in their ages. lol...but a great relationship between them.

Anyway, this system of 'Recognition' apparently still operates, and you can find details about it on the Philippines Bureau of Immigration official website.

Good idea...IF , as you say, they still process at the London embassy. It saves doing a years 'Probationary' 13A (in the Phils) before getting the full one (which I do have).

I know they stopped during Covid. Possible UK police report needed ? In the Phils once you've been there 6 months, and applying for 13A, only a cheap and quick NBI clearance needed.

You're welcome Rory.
As long as you have birth certs and any other needed 'proofs' to hand, the processing is quite straightforward.
When processing the 13A in the Phils, they do get a bit confused at the way our names are listed on our (UK) passports, so will probably ask for a written declaration, with a local Phils notary stamp confirming that there is no problem with that. The Attorneys close to Immigration are familiar with the documentation needed, and for a couple to three thou pesos you'll be pretty much done and dusted. Just add on the fixed 13A fee to Immigration (About p11,500).

Our local Dagupan Immigration office were most helpful. They help you do all the paperwork, then send it off to Manila for approval. No agent needed.

Earlier this year I had a most enjoyable visit back to York...my UK home city (first time back in the UK after 5 years) accompanied by my Phils-born 8 year-old son, and my York-born 30 year-old son...who also has a Filipina mum. First time they'd met 'face to face'.

The UK is getting a worse place to live every year. We will be off in less that 3 years and we have no plans to return.

Indeed that’s my thoughts about the UK too, we are looking at being in the Philippines next Christmas and hoping to find a place we can call home , renting not buying though
