... and rightly so! ... public servants ought to receive a "dressing down" for failing to uphold the sartorial standards expected of them - even in circumstances such as those mentioned.

Heavens above, ... I can still recall being criticised by the Branch Manager of a Building Society - where I'd been working at the time - for serving a customer in my shirt sleeves.
was more than 50 years ago. And ... ... at the height of summer too!
