Should Using Public Toilets Be Free?
IMO - as someone with ongoing prostate problems - my answer has to be an unequivocal yes!
Regardless of gender, "calls of nature" are basic human needs ... often manifesting themselves at the most inopportune moments. And to be "caught short" devoid of 'small' change is no joke for ANYBODY ... much less for the likes of folk with related illnesses mentioned in the link I've posted:

Of course they should be free...and the 1,000s of now-closed ones reinstated !
Lots more older folk in the UK now, who need to go more often. Not their fault, and they've probably paid the most money into the system over the years too !
Damned disgraceful, when money is squandered on frivolous things and benefits for the idle, the criminal, and the cheaters.

Should be free if you hold some sort of card to prove you have a medical problem. Otherwise you should pay. Somebody needs to clean and maintain public toilets.
People would soon complain if the toilets were not clean or maintained.
So yes a small charge to spend a penny is a must.

Can't remember the last time I paid to have a leak. Seriously, I can't. All the public toilets I've been to have been free in at least ten years and they're located all over the place. Poorly maintained at some though. The worst one was at a lay-by south of Shrewsbury. That literally was a shithole with crap piling up in the bowl in the cubicle, no toilet seat or toilet paper, no soap, wet & slippery floor, and the place honking of stale piss.

If you want to sit down on a nice well-cleaned toilet with toilet tissue provided, then yes, a charge seems justified.
If you nip in to use a filthy urinal for a quick slash, then no, there should be no charge.
In the old days, it cost one penny, inserted into the door lock, to use a cubicle.
Hence the graffiti on the back of many toilet doors:
Here I sit, broken hearted
Paid a penny, only farted.
