Funeral Of MND Campaigner, Gordon Aikman

Representatives from the "great & good" of BOTH Scottish and National politics gathered in Edinburgh yesterday to pay tribute to the prominent campaigner for research into finding a cure for *Motor Neurones' Disease - *with which he had been diagnosed, while serving as Director for 'Better Together' during the period leading up to the Scottish Independence Referendum in 2014 - the horribly degenerative condition that ultimately claimed his life.

Meanwhile, in Perth ... ... possibly around the same time, I found myself paying my last respects to a man I'd never even met!

... it wasn't the wrong funeral! However, those of you who've been forum members for as long as I have, might recall the notoriety I once earned for [inadvertently] making exactly such a "grave" error around 61/2 years' ago.

    http://filipinaroses.com/showthread....+Arthur+Little refers.

But yesterday the circumstances were entirely different, in that the deceased happened to be the middle one of the three sons of a late, long~term boss of mine who'd passed away back in 1987.

Although I'd known the other two siblings very well, when the eldest was a teenage police cadet (and the youngest, scarcely eight yrs old) around the period I started working for my boss, the middle lad, Chris, had been a sickly child who seldom went out, due to a congenital heart defect. Hence the reason he and his dad's staff hadn't met.

Sadly, he died aged 55, on Monday February 6 and the funeral was yesterday afternoon.

Admittedly ... I'd swithered about whether to attend or not. But, I decided, in the end, to go along to the nearby Crematorium where it was being held ... and I'm glad to've taken the opportunity to express my sincere condolences to his remaining siblings and [by now] elderly, wheelchair~bound mother - each of whom, still remembered me, in spite of the passage of almost 3 decades.

RIP., Chris ... you'll be very much missed.

Yes, ... 31 is far too young to succumb to illness these days.

Thankyou for taking the time to reply to this thread, Marco.
