Lake District - Switzerland
Recently returned after another great trip visiting family in Switzerland.
Here’s the view from Monte Cimetta ( 1672m ), overlooking Locarno and Lago Maggiore, which could be reached either by a long hike, or funicular, cable car and chairlift :-
Locarno and the lake from the air ( including Monte Cimetta ) :-
We could have also gone paragliding …
We DID swim in Lago Lugano ( water 24 degrees, Lido San Domenico, quiet because can only be reached by lakeside path ) :-
Refreshments in Locarno :-

Perfect - Switzerland is our favourite place. We've been there a few times in the past 2 years. Everything is so tranquil and clean.

Very nice.
I used to go ski-ing in the Dolomites (near Zermatt), but financially out of my reach now.

Thank you Michael and Graham .
Switzerland IS an expensive place to visit ( and live, although salaries are commensurate ), but it helps not having accommodation to pay !
The exchange rate is around 1.3 Swiss francs / £1.
Interestingly, the coins have not changed in design for many years, and some from the 19th century are still legal tender today. They are minted in the capital city, Bern.
They all bear the country’s name, " Confoederatio Helvetica " ( Latin for Swiss Confederation ), and show " Libertas " ( ancient Roman goddess of liberty ); " Helvetia " ( female national personification of Switzerland ) ; or a Swiss shepherd.
This years’ coins also feature an alpine flower commemorative :-
The 2000 coins, like all the others, show the same design :-
A few more views ( as before, left click on underlined links for more information ) :-
Zurich and Zurichsee ( Lake Zurich ) from the air. The short flight across the Alps from Zurich to Lugano is spectacular :-
Lugano, Lago Lugano, and Monte San Salvatore ( 912m ) :-
Bird’s eye view of Lago Lugano ( Monte Generosa, 1704m, in distant right ) :-
In the city of Lugano :-
Lugano ( Piazza della Riforma ) :-
