    Subway for Manila??

Duterte plans subway to ease Metro traffic woes.

MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte will pursue a subway project that will connect the capital's business districts, as he moves to ease traffic congestion, a Cabinet official said Tuesday.
The subway, to be effective, will be connected with Metro Manila's other transportation systems, Transportation Undersecretary for rail Noel Kintanar said.

MANILA - With political will and a pipeline of fast-moving projects, President Rodrigo Duterte can solve the paralyzing traffic in Metro Manila in two to three years, a senior Cabinet official said Tuesday.
A new law that will allow government to resolve "right of way issues" and 24-hour construction works will hasten the completion of major projects. Road projects are also underway, including one connecting the north and south Luzon expressways, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said

This will take some time to completely cure, if they can cure it. All major cities have traffic problems.

Step 1. Stop Jeepneys stopping whereever they like and double/triple/quadruple parking.

With the problems with annual flooding, I don't think I'd risk going on an underground in Manila

remember seeing how they built flood tunnels in Malaysia that double as an underground road system..

Seems that once they forgot to activate the exit system during a flood.

Yep, just what they need to drain all the floodwater into...resulting from all the other pipes, tunnels and waterways that have been allowed to be blocked up with garbage etc.

    Then there are earthquakes.

I wish them well, but really I'd have thought a (strong, properly constructed) series of raised roadways, similar to the ones currently in use and being built, would be a more sensible idea in Manila.

I have worked on tunnel systems in Hong Kong, running below land and sea, so I'm aware of the many difficulties encountered... not least of which is water ingress !

Is the elevated road near the airport finished yet? Runs from outside T3 where the highway exit runs past Resorts World and along around the airport perimeter road towards T1/T2.

Since we head South from MNL upon arrival this is the most annoying part of our journey, the new elevated road will fix that for us.

I just took a look at Google Satellite and it looks nearly complete in the last images.

Making reasonable progress, but another few months to go before completion, I'd reckon. (That was when I was last there in June).

Wouldn"t it be too hot for a subway in Manila?
In the famous UK summer of 1976 people fainted because it was so hot on the London underground.

Hmm ... ... when I was in *Rome (which already has a subway) average daytime temperatures *there were just as hot - if not even hotter - than Manila.

happened to be in June, over 5 years' ago.

So ... the mightn't be as as some folk think!
