Manchester Royal Infirmary Closes A&E Department Pending Investigation Into Suspected MERS Outbreak
Following its Accident & Emergency Services being temporarily suspended, a hospital spokesperson has since confirmed that the two patients suspected of contracting the infection have been isolated appropriately, in order to receive clinical treatment for their condition ... and there're no significant risk(s) to public health.

Good news that the two unrelated individuals tested for MERS-CoV in Manchester both proved negative – as have all 316 other tests across the UK since 2013. No panic and no significant risk to public health !
South Korea now appears effectively out of MERS danger, no new cases having been reported since July 4. The outbreak was the largest outside Saudi Arabia, with confirmed infection in 186, 36 deaths, and about 17,000 in quarantine at its peak. Apart from closing schools and keeping shoppers at home, the economy was further weakened by the adverse effect on tourism.
As I’ve reported in the several other threads on the topic, there is no licensed vaccine, although recent research on animals ( mice and macaques ) in the USA has shown an immune response to a vaccine against a viral protein which the MERS-CoV uses to enter cells.
