    HPC Registration

Any Biomedical Scientists in here who are trying to gain registration with the HPC (Health Professions Council)?

Or any profession requiring registration with HPC?

    Hi there,

I'm not a Biomedical Scientist, but I am registered with the HPC. How may I help you?

Hi Tish! The main reason i posted this thread is to offer advice to those who are trying to gain registration with HPC. Since I myself had no help or advices taken from a co-filipino when trying to register. Most fils I know were nurses and it helps a lot if someone in the same situation as u have would be able to help. I successfully gained registration as a BMS merely by going through all the guidelines and phoning the HPC.
Anyway, thanks for the offer. ANd are you by any chance a Physiotherapist?
As i have a friend whom i pushed to register with HPC. She just submitted the application and is now undergoing assessment which would take ages.
If you are a PT, i just wonder how do HPC assess PT's qualification from the Phils? Is it the same as here or would they tell u to complete training? How long will the traing be?
    Thanks!

    I'm not a PT, I'm something else
As far as I'm aware, one must have completed their training within recognised organisation here in the UK to be eligible for registration in the UK. Otherwise, one must undergo further training to be eligible.

Full guidelines for each 13 professions currently being regulated by the HPC can be found on the HPC's website.

i noticed this thread was posted on Dec of 2007 but i just got acrossed this today as im not online all the time. i felt this site was only for lovebirds and as i am loveless...anyway, back to the hpc reg,i have a partial accreditation for registration as a biomedical scientist and it expires aug of this year. my problem was i couldnt get a placement where i could undergo training to get my full registration. im on a working visa as unit manager in a care home...but if i do get a placement in the laboratory...i would love to go back to practice my profession.

Have u tried to look for posts in local nhs hospitals in your area? Which dept. do u specialise in? Partial accreditation? Does that mean you have to complete the registration portfolio for 6 mos? My application was straight forward. I didn't need to complete the portfolio but someone i know did. HPC assesses applications individually dependent on your experiences.

when i applied, i needed to complete the portfolio for 3months. now i think it changed to 1 year no matter how experienced you are. assessement and regulations change all the time so better to go back to the website. many thanks.

Changes are inevitable especially when it comes to working for the NHS. But we are living in the evolving world and I think no matter how much one hates changes; changes are wether we like it or not

When I gained my BSc (Hons) a few years back, I thought 'thank goodness that's over and done with', but with all the CPD (continuing propfessional development) that I must complete in order to stay in the register, it feels like I'm still at Uni and I know it's going to be that way until I retire from work or leave the health care industry.

You must be one of the lucky ones who gained registration without difficulties. A friend of mine who's a radiographer (not sure of hand if diagnostic or therapeutic) in PI and have years of experienced including years of working in the Middl East still struggles to get registration with the HPC. However, he entered UK as a care worker, so that might have something to do with it (might be due to his immigration status when entering the UK?)

its a up hill struggle for IMG,

my wife has to do IELTS again becuase its expired, no big problem but she has to get an average of 7 or is it 7.5

then travel all the way to london to take the plab1 exam (taken it twice , failed twice) as they work out what the average mark of the exam is, then set the pass mark at about 10% higher than the average, so only those who only get a high score pass, so most fail, and the exams is only held 3 or 4 times a year, then she has to take plab2, which cost £450+

then she can start applying for jobs, which is another up hill struggle, as the tide is turning against IMG's

house of lords should be making a ruling any time, on a court case the gov lost to a pressure group of indian docotors, allowing them to compete equally with brits\europeans for training posts jobs.

so the gov is doing all it can to restrict IMG's from applying for training posts.

its going to be a long hard uphill struggle for the misses to get training in the UK

Must have been really hard for the missis Joe. I mean for what I can gathered in your other posts the missis being a doc in Philippines yet having to do less qualifying roles here in UK
