Our house in Manila is only a few minutes away from Divisoria. I hated going there because it's too crowded and the place is prone to robbers.

In my experience, NO. There's no reason for a westerner to go there really. They have malls there though, Tutuban Mall, 168 and 999. They sell cheap and mostly fake stuff there. If that's your thing, it's a nice place to shop. If not, then just look elsewhere.

Sounds a little like carbon market in Cebu city but a lot worse.

I had a bracelet (made of fake pearls and gold plated chain) which got snatched one time I was there. I was in a jeep on my way to a friend's house. I didn't realised that even fake jewelries will be snatched as well! I was annoyed at that time because it was one of my favourite accesories. The last time I went there (I had no choice) was when I had to get my measurements for the gown I need to wear for a friend's wedding (that was in 2009). I didn't bring anything with me, just a few change for jeepney rides going to and back to our house.

I visited Divisoria within the past 5 years, travelling by jeepney, accompanied by three trustworthy Filipino friends who watched me and my camera, so no problems !

I will have to disagree, as I think most westerners should at least enjoy the experience once. Going to the Mall of Asia or some other posh mall is very nice, however its not where your average Filipino shops for clothing and other goods. You also have Chinatown nearby if you fancy some great Chinese grub.

Ditto Fred. The Divisoria is getting a bit posh theses days with air con malls. If people want a real Filipino shopping experience they should head to Baclaran on a rainy day!!

Baclaran used to be a fantastic place for people watching,i remember walking past some DVD sellers, they had small TV's so buyers could see the quality of the movie they wanted to purchase, one guy shouted for me to watch a hard-core porno he was showing in broad daylight in ful view of pedestrians strolling past

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.

    Did you peek?

One of my original rackets here in the Philippines, was to buy DVD's in Manila and send them to my brother in law in the UK. The quality was hit-or-miss at the best of times but we made a few bucks
