Watched the first 2 episodes on BBC iPlayer. Amazing people with incredible stories. We don't realise how lucky we are
Austin Byrne The veteran survived for days on a life raft in the Arctic after his ship was torpedoed.
George ‘Johnny’ Johnson George is the last surviving British veteran of the daring Dambuster raids.
Connie Hoe Born in Britain’s first Chinatown, Connie Hoe survived the horrors of the Blitz.
Dorothy Hughes Anti-aircraft gunner Dorothy Hughes became one of the first female Chelsea Pensioners.
Geoffrey Wellum The squadron leader is one of the last surviving pilots of The Battle of Britain.
Sid Graham The East End boy risked his life in the Merchant Navy, and survived a torpedo attack.
John Glover The Parachute Regiment veteran bravely volunteered for a treacherous D-Day mission.

Yes, amazing brave people for whom we have so much to thank.
My dad served in the RN on the Russian convoys among other things, in what must have been horrific conditions, but never talked about it. Many of his friends killed.

old chap still has much the same hairstyle he had 75 years ago!
Apart from which, ... he bears a striking resemblance to a couple of leading 20th century political stalwarts - from opposing sides of the spectrum - namely, Tony Benn and Michael Hestletine, respectively.
