These are roughly the costs that one immigrant would be spending in 5/6 years of their immigration journey. Take note, it will increase every year.

If you're a pensioner with no other income other than that, you can show that your savings (including pension) will be enough to support your partner (that's if your pension doesn't meet the financial requirement).

My husband is a War Pensioner and he can show that what he's getting from that meets the financial requirement (that is where his income comes from). But we are exempted on the financial requirement because hubby also receives DLA.

My thoughts, for what they’re worth …. and apologies in advance if they offend…..

I think that anyone, and I mean ANYONE (be it a spouse, partner, high-net worth individual etc etc) who settles here on a “permanent” basis, should be allowed to apply for British citizenship/nationality….

BUT ……

This should only be granted under a lifetime licence…. and can be removed at the discretion of the Government at ANY time. (Obviously what these discretionary powers are, or the scope of them, is a debate in itself).

Being “under licence” means that the individual cannot give up their former nationality,…… meaning that there will always be a named exit door (eg Nigeria, Iraq, Somalia etc) if their licence is withdrawn.

Those who abide by the rules & laws of this country should see this as no more than a necessary but irrelevant technicality. Those who don’t abide by the rules & laws of this country………..


Obviously this throws up many questions and “what if’s”, but something that shouldn’t just be dismissed out of hand.
