Whilst I was aware of the of the political distinctions between the Lord Mayor and the *Mayor of London (as in *Boris) ... I hadn't realised
there were Mayors of the outlying Boroughs as well.

there's only one civic chief: Lord Mayor or Mayor and/or Lord Provost/Provost (in Scotland) - according to a city's or town's importance!
