Didn't mean it to sound pretentious Steve.

I was just trying to explain that the older you get the more your body doesn't want to do what your mind try's to tell it to do.

My overall fitness and flexibility has deteriorated since I was bouncing around with the company Taekwondo team hehehe

Ah ... ... know the feeling only too well ... especially whenever I forget my age and attempt to chase after a bus like I used to do even a decade ago.

We have bin collections 7 days a week (including all public holidays) and at least 10 road sweepers, who continually clean the roads throughout the day. They need too

Depending on where you live the Philippines can be reasonably clean

Like you Jake our village has the bins collected every morning.
The roads are swept everyday along with cleaning of drains.
Generally speaking it's very clean and tidy.

    We're very happy.

I have noticed this rubbish mounting up a lot just in the last month or so on the A64 in York. The litter that is on the sides of the roads is terrible, The council must know it is there but it is getting way out of hand now. They will have to close the road to clear it up.

In enlightened places such as Alabama they'd have a Chain Gang on it

Part of the cuts I suppose.

I've noticed that the road edges in York have been neglected too, so that now the weeds have begun to destroy the kerbs and other surfaces. Total false economy.

Why don't they just ask householders nearby to do a bit of weeding if the council can't handle it ?

Apart from ethnic area's I think there's been an improvement over the years in cleanliness on the streets in the UK. I can't remember last seeing a pile of dog's muck on the pavement for one.

As for beaches in the Philippines, they seem to be of good standard apart from what I've seen. They're especially strict on White Beach in Boracay as smoking on the beach is banned.

I saw something on Phil TV recently about dodgy (illegal ??) sewage outlets spewing out into the sea at Boracay

Apparently Puerto Galera had a similar problem not so long ago but when I went 18 months ago it seemed to have been resolved.

The sewage at Dumaguete only travels about 100 yards along a pipe then straight into the sea and if the breeze is blowing inland the stench is revolting, also only a few yards from where the sewage is spewing out the pipe into the sea there are kids collecting shellfish that there families cook on the beach, disgusting!

They should add another few hundred yards to that pipe, like they do in the UK

We burn all our rubbish and its all gone in about 10 minutes each week.
I`m thinking about building a proper incinerator in which I can get rid of a months worth in about 5 mins...
As I have not flown on a jumbo jet for about 8 years I reckon my eco credits will allow me this indulgence..Apart from that though,i do like a good burn up occasionally.
