Yes recently, I'm not sure who it was, teachers or whoever, but strike action was called for and I can't remember the figures, but it was something crazy like 18% voted for industrial action, and the turnout of voting was something like 30%
These figures are just from memory, but it beggars belief.

The car factory workers and London dockers were the worst, all thought they had jobs for life.

Thatchers defeat of breaking the unions. I agree the unions had become above themselves, striking for little and nothing many times.
But, you know, there are many factory workers who found protection with the unions, protection from bullying on the shop floor by the floor managers. I can't remember the name that these guys had for their position, but they would wear long white jackets, and didn't do any physical work. They were in charge of the workers - much of the bullying came from them - those bullied would be afraid to lose their jobs, due to mortgage loans, etc. Some I know had nervous breakdowns because of this, others became just ill. This was after Maggie's breaking of the unions.
And that is a fact!
