How long to go now
A visit from the kids the other day and they was asking how long have you to go know before you leave,
Well we have another Christmas here with you was the answer from me and also Emma too,
Why are you waiting when you can go now if you really want too,
This got me thinking , do we set a date and are happy working up to that date or do you say sod it and take the plunge , to risky in my eyes to do the second,
Well you have enough money dont you,
Yes and no , we have more then we will ever need if it all goes well, dont get me wrong we are not rich compared to some but also we are not poor either, i have had this figure i am wanting in the bank to think thats a good cushion for the jut in case plus there is extra for the nice things too,
I am worried even a little frightened too i am going to somewhere i have really no idea about day to day living , that is why i am trying to read and find out all i can before we say bye bye,
I know many will say you have to be here to sort lots out , to see if you have made the right choice and so on, but a little knowledge can help too,
Anyway we are still on plan and yes plans can change too, but so far so good,
I have just thought , are the kids trying to get rid of me or something

I had been coming to Phils for 8 years before I retired to see my lady. We built the house a few years ago.

Good planning
We had been visiting regularly since 1998
We had purchased a few properties along the way just by chance really. We always had a plan to develop our beach property but we ditched that soon after relocating here.
So far we've sold up all but 1 and my wife keeps that going as a rental place. She's recouped all the purchase cost now and the monthly rent is very helpful.
During the past 12 months we've found 3 properties that we wanted to buy. Each time we would put down a non-returnable holding fee and each time we would decide against it for some reason or other.
We just spotted a bungalow and will try again.
It's more fun in the Philippines........but only if you have money

Steve, I feel you have too many doubts right now to take any decision. Even the high level of positivity you hold may not be enough.
IMO you need a steady and reliable income stream. Preferably here to avoid the vagaries of RoE but anyway even from UK is OK as long as it's steady, reliable and enough.
So just how much is enough ?
That's the 64 thousand dollar question simply because it DOES all depend where you want live and how you want live.
I've often stated that a minimum regular monthly income of P50k is OK and I'll stand by that.
When it come to the question how much in the bank, well there's really no answer.
In a worst case scenario you'll never have enough.
Did I make the best decision when I chose to live here ?
No
But I did make the best decision of those available to us both. So no regrets at all so far.
