    Our UK Progress.

We arrived back in the UK exactly a month ago today and so far things have been great! We arrived on a nice warmish morning at Heathrow Airport and were greeted by my parents who had come to pick us up.

After being away from the UK for over six years it was a fantastic feeling to be back, there really is no place like home! After a two hour journey back to the East Midlands we settled in at my parents place where we will be staying for a few months while we get on our feet so to speak.

So far my wife seems to be loving it here, the only thing from the Philippines that she misses is her dog (he will be joining us in Feb). We have opened a bank account and registered her for he N.I number which should be with us in the next 19 days so they told us (19..very precise).

She has also signed up with an agency who said they will start to get her resume out to people and hopefully gain work, she sat a small test which covered her basic computer skills and the agency seem happy.

So far things seem to be going good, we are all happy to be back in the UK, me especially! It's great to be home and I really appreciate things here now which I took for granted before. My daughter got enrolled at a local primary school, has settled in well and has made new friends already!

Dan, ... there's nowhere on this Earth like the familiarity of one's own homeland!

So, back to the United Kingdom.

Welcome back Would be really interested to know more about your story, like what made you want to come back or was it part of the long term plan from the beginning

    Hi Simon,

I suppose it has always been in my thoughts for at least the past three years or so, my main driving force for returning to the UK was my daughters education. In the Philippines she was at an American school which was pretty decent, although it was getting more expensive with each passing year.

Although the education was OK at her level I did worry about the standards further down the line, because of this I decided we needed to move back to the UK to give her the best possible start.

I always say that the only thing you cannot have taken away from you is your education, because of this I made the choice to come home.

Another reason was, if I'm honest, because I was just getting burnt out living in the Philippines. I started to complain about everything and I didn't want to end up like some of the guys there where I think to myself "If you don't like it here, go home". So that's what I did!

I'm more than happy to be back although in some respects it's like starting over being 16 again, no credit history, starting from scratch pretty much at every turn. But I still know I made the right choice.

The next thing on my list is to maybe meet up with some of you fine gents some my wife can maybe meet some like minded decent Filipinas so she doesn't feel too excluded.

    -Dan.

Good to see things have worked out well for you back there in the U.K since your recent arrival.

BTW..Did you ever get your savings back from BDO?
Although there are monthly dormancy fees.. They cannot close the account and steal your money..
    Just saying.

I can totally understand concerns about your child's education.
That is exactly why I brought my son and two stepchildren back to the UK.
    Looking back...a wise decision.

Lovely to hear that your family is settling in well here in UK Nitrox and thank you for sharing your photos of your lovely wife and daughter.

My Filipino nephew arrived when he was 6 year old (under very different circumstances) but took to his new school like a duck to water and has gone from strength to strength. He's popular with his peers and looking forward to starting secondary school next year. I hope your daughter thrives in her new school !!
