Scottish Frontiers on Medicine (STV on YouTube)
An interesting collection of STV documentaries here

When there's dross on the TV I tend to check out YouTube for factual stuff - and now with a smart TV (also Chromecast) can easily watch on the big screen

You've hit the nail on the head Arthur - considering the amount of channels we now have the amount of mindless tripe is staggering.
That reminds me to start a new thread on Pinoy TV

No offence, but I would not sit watching around 7 hours of medical documentaries uploaded in April 2011 – even if Scottish medicine was and still is of the highest standard !
Advances in medicine mean that information on health must be up to date – unless you wish a historical perspective. In that case I recommend " The History of Medicine " by Mark Jackson, published this year (http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-History-...ry+of+Medicine
).
There are many up to date articles and documentaries / podcasts on health issues :-
• BBC News Health (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health/ ; http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer
),
• Channel 4 (http://www.channel4.com/search/?q=health&x=12&y=4
),
• World Health Organization (http://www.who.int/en/
),
• “ Lancet “ ( http://www.thelancet.com/
),
• BMJ (http://www.bmj.com/thebmj
),
• GMC (http://www.gmc-uk.org/
),
• and GMA (http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/ ).
• " Google is your friend " ! Links are available for any health topic, some reliable ( NHS :- http://www.nhs.uk/Pages/HomePage.aspx ;
Patient.co.uk :- http://www.patient.co.uk/
), some less so.
• Search – and " follow " " Health " on " Twitter " ( https://twitter.com/
)
and you will see many links to reliable sites and health experts who provide up to date information ( and opinions ).
• Two other books published this year are recommended for enthusiasts :- " Reforming Health Care ; What’s the Evidence ? " (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Reforming-he...S+THE+EVIDENCE
),
and " Tropical Medicine Lecture Notes " (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lecture-Note...pical+medicine
).
• " Networking " - chatting to friends / colleagues about health issues, also puts matters into perspective - not to mention a visit to your doctor if you have concerns, worrying symptoms or signs .
• Rather than watching too many documentaries or reading too much medical literature, may I suggest half an hour of daily exercise in addition - or instead - could be more beneficial !
