Lightbulb Palawan is top island in the world

With its world-renowned underground river, the island of Palawan in the Philippines emerged as the top island destination in a poll by an award-winning US travel magazine.

Beating 147 other islands throughout the world, Palawan was voted as “Top Island in the World” in the 27th annual Readers’ Choice Awards of Conde Nast Traveler magazine.

Looks lovely, but I thought Malaria was endemic in Palawan.

The high-risk areas for malaria in the Phils are Southern Palawan, Sulu Archipelago and Cagayan Valley/Isabela in Luzon. There are quite a few malaria-free provinces predominantly in the Visayas with the exception of the two on Negros Island, I believe. Elsewhere in the Phils its either free or low/medium risk.
