    Sky TV price re-negotiation!

Well it's that time of year when I have to strike a decent seal with Sky.

I have every channel and pay £24.50 a month but today got my new bill which puts it up to £68.00 a month

No-way am I paying that so for the third year running I have sent an email to cancel - along with my phone number so when they ring I will try my Yorkshire-man bargaining skills again.

    I am reasonably confident

Will post you the outcome later today.

The secret there is, cancel Sky. After how many days, they will send you a mail with 50% off for 12 months. That's what my husband's best friend did. He cancelled Sky, after how many days, they got a later offering them 50% off for 12 months. They pay £50/ month. Hahaha

That's what I have been doing but with 75% off - last time tho, they agreed on the phone so I did not have to cancel

Wow! Didn't know they could offer 75% off!!! Hmmmmm.. Once I have a work, we will sign up on Sky. We only have Sky before because husband's best friend has Sky Go and he let my husband use it for two years free. Now he's got rid of Sky, so we don't have cable at the mo, but I think he will get that 50% off. If not, we will sign up when I start earning. Hahahaha in all fairness, Sky is the best cable here.

Yes, but I think you will only get the 75% when you threaten to leave so you won't get that to start with, but you should be able to get a good joining them offer.

I got mine down to £36 for everything, and they replaced my old dish as I was having signal problems. Also, the price is fixed for a year but no minimum term.
Before that it was £28.00 but went up to £34. so you had a very good deal, Les.

My mob phone contract with Virgin ends at the end of October.

I want to then kick them into touch.

    What do I do ?

Am I supposed to give a months notice, or just ring them and stop the direct debit? (I don't want them to keep taking money after I [presumably] send the phone back).

I think you need to phone them up to cancel one month in advance Graham or they'll keep taking money off you.

That's what happens on the 3 network, anyhow.

No need to send the phone back Graham, you've paid off the contract and so the phone is yours Ask them for a PAC code which your legally entitled to, this will enable you to transfer your existing number onto a pay as you go sim

Shutup Les. It's the first contract phone I've had.

    .
What about getting it unlocked ?

How to unlock a phone on Virgin Mobile

Virgin Mobile currently sells all its pay monthly handsets unlocked, but some sold before July 2012 may require unlocking. Nearly all pay as you go phone on Virgin Mobile are locked to the network. Both pay as you go and pay monthly customers can unlock their phone whenever they want for £15.32. The process will take up to 30 calendar days and you'll need to give Virgin Mobile a call as there's no online form.

Not sure if you could do it cheaper via eBay or 'stani phone shop

Rather than Sky you should look into Netflix, it's only a fiver a month and you are spoilt for choice with program content.

    Thanks mate.

I got this one (monthly contract) beginning of Nov. 2012, so maybe it IS unlocked already.

I haven't tried another SIM in it. Maybe I'd better do that first...might be in luck.

Yes Graham try another sim before wasting your money.

If it's locked the other sim won't work

My local mobile phone shop unlocked Sheina's Galaxy Ace 2 for £5.00

I purchased an MX box and have all channels, films and world webcams + a lot more. One-off costs 200.00 Euro with nothing else to pay, as it works via the internet.

    Just had a phone call

Thick East London (innit mate) accent, talked slow and annoyed me
Useless - he wanted me to leave off certain channels - which I won't do - so I said definitely cancel. Plus, I'm unhappy at being charged £68 out of the blue.

He said why did not I write it down on a calender!

Serious tongue-biting took place - I explained that they should inform me in advance if the price is going to go up dramatically.

Anyway, not the result I wanted for now, but hopefully it will get passed on to someone with something about them.

I wont settle for anything less than my last deal and I want the difference refunded.

    Messing with the wrong person!

    Hello Leslie,

We've tried to make you laugh and put you on the edge of your seat. But most of all, we've loved putting on a show for you. So we're sad that you've cancelled your Sky TV.

Your entertainment will end on 26 October. Saying that, it’s not too late to change your mind, and then you won't miss out on the exclusive shows on Sky Atlantic, which you can't get with anyone else.

Staying means more than just great TV

Keep watching TV from Sky on your mobile or online with Sky Go.

Only Sky customers get the best shows from the UK & the US on Sky Atlantic

Stay in charge of your TV with Sky+ and the award winning Sky+ App

To change your mind just call 03442 414 141

    Sky TV Cancellation Date 26/10/14

We don't want you to go and it’s not too late to stay

We'd really like the show to go on and would love to change your mind about leaving us. It’s easier than you might think and all it takes is a quick phone call
    to 03442 414 141 .

We hope to hear from you soon

Les, within 3 weeks you will get a call, the deal will be done, unless of course you get a thick East London accent and you start throwing your Yorkshire rattle out the pram.

Just got rid of them as their bills were creeping up. Got the Phone Call and exactly the same email. Couldn't be waiting so got a deal with Virgin - Phone TV and Broadband for £46 a month.

It's worth waiting for £25.00 is a fair price

I'm with virgin, get ready for their bills to creep up to. 5 price increases of between £1 and one was £5.50 in the past 2 years....

Like Les I always complain and negotiate a better deal, but the next one I am cancelling as hopefully Harlene will be here and I won't be sat on my butt watching TV and internetting most days.

    I'm sure it will work
Has done before and it's a case of do they want £25.00 a month for nothing or not?
