They've been on about it for many years now. I thought it was done. Be nice to know!

Well, when - and if - it goes ahead, expect them cheap land deals to vanish, so looking at the long term I can see buying land there as a good long term investment. On another note - and Fred will back me up on this - the locals don,t like change - they don,t want their island invaded by tourists from what I understand

I was told that the first contract which deals with perimeter fencing and land clearing has commenced.. No idea if its true as I haven't been up that way in ages..

The latest I have read on civil works is that it is supposed to start in August.

I suppose we will just have to wait and see!

    Actually,I don't hear anyone complaining..

All I know is, it's almost impossible to get a decent local bricklayer, carpenter or electrician these days..

There is soooo much construction going on here and they are all working and earning.

Virtually all our family living in Bohol and more especially Panglao are business folks, some even with beach resort.
They tell us they can't wait long enough and don't know any who oppose the plan.
Been in the pipeline for ages now

Thanks Fred for the pictures, what a scar on the landscape it looks, but maybe it will bring in lots of cash and work for the locals,
What are your views on being a local yourself about this

Its not really a good question to ask me Steve if you want a fair and impartial answer....I`m in the tourism business...More tourists, more business!
That said, the airport it will be replacing is far too small and the runway far too short..When Im on top of the BQ mall building I feel like ducking when these planes go over on their final approach.

Palawan will be having a new airport soon to serve El Nido, even though it's located further south in San Vicente. Estimated completion is 2017 so it'll be open in 2025.

From looking at the map above it looks like the flight path is on the border of Danao so should not effect Alona beach in the way your picture suggests.

Maybe by then El Nido will have more than 1 ATM what a ridiculous situation for a Tourist resort..

I think there are two. Next to each other.

I have heard they are opening a new bank there. BDO or the other one beginning with B. BPI is it?

I remember watching them from the rooftop of a hotel in Tagbiliran called Arabelle Suites. Not as frequent as the ones I saw from a joint near the Fiesta Mall in Pasay. One every few minutes.

Sipalay in Negros has no ATM that caters for tourists. Neither does Malapascua Island.
