Military jets escort Qatar Airways plane to Manchester Airport

A man has been arrested on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat after military jets were called to escort a passenger plane to Manchester Airport.

The Qatar Airways plane was escorted in to land by the Royal Air Force (RAF) following information received by the pilot.

Greater Manchester Police said it was treating it as a "full emergency".

Armed police boarded the Doha to Manchester plane and arrested a passenger on board.

All flights in and out of the airport were suspended for about 25 minutes.
    'Pretty shook up'

The plane involved was an Airbus A330-30, which had 269 passengers and 13 Qatar Airways crew on board.

The RAF confirmed Typhoon aircraft were launched from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire as part of its "quick reaction alert role" when a pilot requested assistance.

Operations at the airport resumed at about 14:00 BST after the plane landed at a terminal.

Passengers have been disembarking from the plane "as normal", an airport spokesman said.

He should definitely have to pay the costs which were £1000s - no argument

My friend lives in Lincolnshire, she has been moaning about the low flying RAF planes that flew over her house earlier, think I will tell her this may have been the reason!

No doubt some idiot drunkard blabbing to a stewardess.

His punishment for this very serious offence (especially post-9/11) should be sobering.

The idiot has been classified as a nutter and sectioned :-

Manchester Police have been questioning the man since the incident on Tuesday afternoon and confirmed he has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

A spokesman said: "Following his arrest he was assessed by medical staff and again by a mental health team.

"He was subsequently sectioned to allow for a fuller assessment and appropriate treatment."

In a right minded country he'd be given a good hiding, 10 years and all his assets seized

Funny how he's capable of buying air tickets, visiting foreign countries and negotiating airports.

Meanwhile..In the special state of the art UK mental health facility,he will be watching himself on a 40" colour plasma whilst high as a kite.

For breakfast,he`ll probably have a full Halal English breakfast and another 4 Valium.

    That`ll do him till lunch.
