Philippine Airlines
When I am traveling on a plane, I like to watch the inflight map and see whereabouts we are.
What I don't want is to be informed where Mecca is every 5 minutes with an arrow.
The Philippines is not classed as a Muslim country so why does Philippine Airlines do it?
I have no problem with Middle Eastern airlines doing it and expect it from them anyway.
Remove this offensive arrow Philippine Airlines, or I will go back to using Cathay Pacific and watch their inflight maps with no arrows.

Couldn't agree more.
Why the hell any normal civilised person would want to
have any part in this primitive nonsense I have no idea.
It's bad enough being 'forced' to eat halal meat on Muslim airlines.

Why the hell do people get so wound up about such little things?

It makes commercial sense
At a guess, for every one person getting wound up because of an arrow on a screen, and then saying they'd rather spend an extra 5 hours getting to their destination so they wont be offended by an arrow, there's a lot more that will chose to fly with them because the arrow is there

5% of population is Islamic, 80.9% Roman Catholic, 4.5% other Christian, 2.8% Evangelical, Iglesia ni Kristo (2.3%), Aglipayan (2.0%), Other (1.8%), Unspecified and none (0.7%)
So after Roman Catholics, Muslims make up the next biggest group....perhaps that's why they show a little arrow pointing to Mecca?

5%** of the UK population is Muslim and there is already excessive kowtowing to them - I'd avoid any British airline that used such markers.
** Muammar Gaddafi 2006 - "There are signs that Allah will grant Islam victory in Europe - without swords, without guns, without conquests. The 50 million muslims of Europe will turn it into a muslim continent within a few decades." Obviously this few decades will reduce if the EU admit Turkey

It's all down to the software provider, and where their flights go.
I have a much bigger gripe with a little Filipina having to pay for 2kg excess luggage, when a 150kg US woman behind her pays nothing extra.Keith Driscoll - Administrator

Went with them last month, flights on time, food good, in-flight entertainment good, attendants good, only gripe were the small seats, if your tall the headrest sits at the top of your back and not your head!! all in all a good service and I would definitely fly with them again....
But do not even think of staying at the Manila Airport Hotel....
Oh and the arrows didn't bother me, in fact they cheered me up knowing Mecca was getting further away..

Airlines from Muslim countries do it and Philippine Airlines is just following them (wrongly)
Flights from Manila to the middle east there might be a good case for doing it
Flights to any other non muslim country then this should be removed
I am sure most European and American citizens dont want to see this when the happen to try and find out where the plane is in the sky

What is the Muslim population of Philippines and how many use Philippine Airlines? Also have you ever thought that the airline is trying to pick up more business by encouraging more Muslims to fly with them by catering for their needs, just my thought!

Halal meat.... Dead is dead. Regardless of how an animal dies for us to eat it, we are still killing it.
Most of the meat in the Philippines is not killed humanely, as defined in the EU, most just bleed to death while awake.
So any westerners worried about arrows and meat, should fly with another airline, and become a vegetarian while in the Phil to ensure that they have nothing to moan about.Keith Driscoll - Administrator
