Another disgrace uncovered.......
I've said it before, and say it again that criminals in our prisons get far better care conditions than our elderly.
The Care Commission are totally toothless. What's the point of scheduled appointments for inspections.
In addition to sacking abusive staff the care home managers should also be taken to task for their failings.

i understand CQC do carry out snap inspections.
my dad is in a lovely --small--- care home--the carers really do look after the residents very well. the owner works there full time. i visit him 3 times a week--i now know all the staff.
however--i have friends that work in a 50 + bed home--owned by a very large organisation. staff morale is terrible--mainly through bad management. the management seem to regard the residents merely as stock.

This is not a one-off storyline. It's being unearthed far too regularly. Means there's no understanding on the size of the problem.........
You're lucky that your dad is in a happy environment with good carers. I'm sure most folks are safe, secure and in good hands............many are not. Too many unqualified people going into care homes solely for income without any understanding or compassion.
Most of those who become victims are extremely vulnerable.

Yes for sure....with the empasis on qualification and training with better recruitment selection processes.
Seems a logical connection but personally I've lots of concerns about CCTV all over the place......I feel it needs to be thought through. Many vulnerable folks get washed/bathed/toileted/dressed/undressed in their rooms and it's at those times that abuse can take place.
Would be nice to think that trustworthy people could be selected at recruitment.......yes I know that's just dreaming.
