Lightbulb Hotpot: 10 best pan sets

Whether you’ve got cooking skills to rival Nigella or are a novice in the culinary stakes, versatile and durable kitchen kit is a must......

    1. Tefal Ingenio

This versatile combo from the reassuring name of Tefal are oven and freezer-friendly. The removable handle means the set is completely stackable, which is handy for anyone short on storage space, and despite being non-stick, you can use metal utensils.
    £100, johnlewis.com

    2. Dunelm Mill Red Spectrum

If you’re on a budget , this set is well worth considering. The pans are non-stick with easy grip handles, and they’re dishwasher safe. Unsurprisingly for the price, they’re not as sturdy as some of the more expensive pans, but are a good-value option for occasional cooks.
    £29.99, dunelm-mill.com

    3. Raymond Blanc Cast Aluminium

You make a saving of £120 by buying the set as opposed to each pan separately, but that’s not the only reason to snap one up. The advanced cast aluminium has all the benefits of cast iron, but is surprisingly light and you can bung them in the dishwasher too.
    £145, cookshop.raymondblanc.com

    4. Meyer Select Advantage Non-Stick

This five-piece almond coloured pan set is practical, ergonomic, durable and affordable, as well as being easy to care for. The drainage facility in the lid is particularly handy and although they’ve got all bases covered in the number and types of pans in the set, they could have made a few more colours available.
    £81.24, tesco.com

    5. Le Creuset Non-Stick

These smart pans will last you years even if you use them every day. There’s a particularly tough non-stick surface both inside and out and a special hardened body. They can be used on any surface and have handy glass lids.
    £240, lecreuset.co.uk

    6. Circulon Genesis

This five-piece set fuses the healthy benefits of non-stick with the classic style of stainless steel. They’re quick to heat up food, a doddle to clean and look contemporary. You can use metal cooking utensils, even a whisk, without a scratch in sight.
    £99.99, bhs.co.uk

    7. Pampered Chef

These smart-looking stainless steel pans are long-lasting, easy to use and clean and, most importantly, they heat food quickly but evenly. We particularly like the extra-long stainless steel handles with thumb rests for a cool grip, and that the pans are both oven-and dishwasher-safe.
    £239.25, pamperedchef.co.uk

    8. Lakeland Classic

These non-stick pans are exceptional for the price and they’ll look good years later. Real thought has gone into the most-used sizes and there are plenty of handy features like easy-strain glass lids and easy-to-hold handles. They wash up brilliantly too.
    £92.99, lakeland.co.uk

    9. Cook’s Essentials Frypan Set

This stylish stainless steel frying pan set will equip you to russle up anything from a bacon sarnie to a saucy curry. The aluminium base helps heat spread quickly and evenly.
    £36.96, qvc.com

    10. Jamie Oliver Tefal Stainless Steel

Jamie Oliver isn’t shy about putting his name behind products, but this three-piece stainless steel set has a six-layer, long-lasting coating system and Thermospot technology, which tells you when it’s at optimum temperature and ready for you to cook. They’re designed so you don’t burn your fingers on the handle or lids too.
    £120, debenhams.com

I've always been a fan of Circulon cookware........good quality and often half-price at BHS and even lower prices at Homesense.

I can definitely vouch for the toughness of the non-stick coating with metal utensils.......

    Filipina wife-proof. IMHO
