    Angry ESOL test?

I know this is another requirement to do before applying for ILR but am quite confused with it. I am living in Cardiff, anyone here who knows where i can take this from here? do i need to take a course before applying for the test? looking into the ukba website it states it as a course! and wow... to pay for that amount i can say that the government is really GUTSIE!!

    Hi.
I will be applying for naturalisation soon and like you said this is another requirement.

However I will be taking IELTS instead so the result is quick and I don't need to go through long process and commitment of studying.

You can check British council IELTS. They will have some test centres in your area. I recommend to book in advance for the test to avoid further cost. About 12 weeks in advance. I booked mine 5 weeks and its £140. When I had a look 12 weeks ahead it was £95. This is no pass and fail but you require at least a band score of 4.5

There is no requirement to specifically take IELTS
UKBA needs only to see a pass certificate for B1 level English Test that is included on their Approved List.

There are many different tests that can be used.
Don't forget only Speaking and Listening each at B1 will be counted.
No overall band scoring will count. Only the individual modules.

It depends when your initial visa was issued.

The so called old-rules refers to visa application submitted prior to 9th July 2012's.
These spouse visa's were valid for 27 months.
After 24 months living in UK the holder became eligible for ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain)
and became eligible for British citizenship after 3 years living in UK.

If you submitted your visa application after 9th July 2012 then your initial visa will be valid for 33 months.
Shortly before 30 months have past the holder (you) applies for a second period of FLR for additional extension of 30 months.
Means a 5 year journey to ILR eligibility and application
