'No room at the inn': Britain says no to Syria's refugees

Aid agencies join Labour in demanding Coalition show support for victims of civil war as policy defies UN appeal and distances Britain from 16 leading nations

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...s-9025265.html

Typical of the Labour handwringers and do gooders wanting more refugees aka future socialist voters flooding in.

There's plenty of Gulf muslim states awash with cash where the refugees should be going. Also damn sight closer to Syria

Why do we need to get involved in these toilet states ? Where has "mission accomplished" got us in Afghanistan - over 400 British dead and countless maimed, the place will remain a hot bed of muslim extremism and exporter of heroin.

When British troops were sent to Helmand in 2006 clueless former Communist then Labour Defence Minister John Reid said he expected them to leave again "without a shot being fired". He's now a Lord trousering a 6 figure salary as a part time consultant with shambolic security firm G4S - nice work if you can get it for a Labour hypocrite.

Joe - remind us where the Kosovan refugees Blair let in now reside and also what many of them do for a living ?

dedworth if you don't want refugees then someone has to take action, simple as

i posted about this a while ago, saying if no one took action there would be millions of refugees , exactly what we have now ..

how can you compare it to Afghanistan why not compare to Libya ? how many British soldiers died there ?

What was the benefit to Britain of Blairs "action" on the Kosovans?

You can't compare Libya with Afghanistan no UK ground forces were there - we were mainly involved in air strikes and cruise missile bombardment. That's what we should have done with Afganistan - precision bombed them, but not back to the stone age as they're already there.

This country is NOT a refugee camp.

If the electorate had a vote on it, it would be 90% against.

The rest of the world can take them in if they're so bothered... especially their wealthy MUSLIM neighbours !

have you got any figures dedworth ?

Jack Straw, the Home Secretary, pledged that they would return to Kosovo after their 12-month exceptional leave to remain expired, between April and June this year. Despite this, last night the Home Office confirmed that 1,838 out of the 4,455 who were given a year to stay in the country are still in Britain. Nato troops now guarantees Kosovars freedom in their own country and Kosovo's first free elections were held this weekend.

19 Kosovans held after Trafalgar Square battle

Police are holding 19 teenagers after three young men were stabbed in Trafalgar Square in the middle of the afternoon. Violence broke out when rival groups of Albanian-Kosovans, armed with knives and hockey sticks, began to fight in one of London's most popular tourist destinations.

Straw's change of some immigration rules has nothing whatsoever to do with the subject of this thread.

He did it to gain favour and future votes from the sub continent ethnics, allowing them to make the barbaric practice of forced/arranged marriages easier. We now know it was part of Labours open door immigration policy to create millions of tame future voters.

You've lamely followed the leftist mantra that he was revoking "unfair and nasty rules" that penalised "genuine" cases.

The country has gone to the dogs already and you can blame both governments for that. So Im not really interested. All I know is our health system has gone down the drain even further since the tories were in power. And when you have got someone like Hunt in charge of it saying no pay rises for NHS staff for the next 3 years who do you think Im going to vote for?. You can blame the Labour party for mass immigration granted but you can also blame Cameron and the tory party for adding to it. And I soleley blame for tories for our manufacturing industry up. Thats my way of thinking.

I agree Andy. The whole lot of them are a shower of ...gutless cowards, all in pursuit of their personal interests.

UKIP are on the rise, promoting the interests of the British people.

Let's get back to the nub of this thread which is that despite the recent hypocritical rhetoric of Straw, Blunkett & Co the Labour Party have not learned their lesson and still wish to allow all and sundry in thus maintaining the UK as the dustbin of the world.

All the bluster of NHS crisis (fuelled by mass uncontrolled immigration), Manufacturing Decline, Milk Snatching etc doesn't detract from that

Well when Hunt the stunt tells me and my colleagues we cant get a rise for the next 3 years and he is laughing all the way to the bank with a £11000+ rise this does affect us.

Of course we should let them in. We have let everyone else's refugees in. We have to be fair or how else can we maintain our reputation as the world's toilet?

I consider 21 far too young and immature to get married...or to have kids for that matter.

The world is overpopulated enough already.

If their relationship is SO solid, they'll be able to wait.

well its 18 here in the UK, so unless they change it to 21 here they shouldn't be allowed to change it to 21 for people coming from another country,

well over 18 in UK law your no longer a minor, so you can die for your country, pay tax, drive a car, not much you cant do

    At 18 you're still a kid.

They shouldn't have lowered the age of majority here IMO. All to gain a few voters too. Ridiculous, but up to the standard of what could be expected from the idiots running this country over the past 50 years I suppose.

Personally, I think people should have to pass an exam before they're allowed to vote at all...or reproduce.
