crap day on the roads today

Well with the high winds and driving rain today there has been lots and lots of trouble on them there roads,
One of our drivers is still stuck on the M62 coming out of Hull, hes been stopped just before the bridge over the river Ouse , he has been there since 3,30pm and there is no sign of the road opening yet,
What amazes me is why the police cannot turn the vehicles back to the previous junction and so they can get on there way, , a bad day for all i think

The wind was strong over this way from about 8am to 2pm but nothing out of the ordinary. Hardly any rain too.

I agree Steve...especially as there is a good alternative route through Howden and Goole (the old road).

Didn't go out, but did worry all day about my boy cycling to work from his new flat...about 4 miles each way.

I'd have happily paid his taxi fare, but you have to let go I suppose.

to cycle in this weather is bad infact to cycle anytime on our roads is bad i think, unless you have been a cyclist or a motorbike rider before jumping into a car you understand about giving them more room on the road,

Lots and lots of fallen branches and all manner of debris on the roads in our area.
I taken things very carefully and kept my eye on the increasing number of driving around

But your quite right Steve, some simple things can be done to ease the problems, but whose responsible if anyone ?

Cyclists are a mixed bunch, but more and more a pain in the ass, worst thing I see is they illegally ride on pavement, then without warning join the road causing you to swerve.
Not only that but most of em can't hear you because they have their mobile/mp3 player nailed into their heads.
It's about time they had to buy a form of insurance as who is going to pay for the scratch they put down the side of your car when I mow em down

the other day i was coming down the road to our works and i saw this chap on a bike on the pavement wearing a hoody, i thought i may just hold back a little before turning left because i knew he would not look and yes i was right , straight across the road without looking right in front of me, so i sounded the lorry horn, up came the finger straight away and then he looked round, then the best thing happened , he hit the curb and head over tit he went , , do you think i should have stopped to check he was ok

That's exactly thing thing I was on about, yes there are some .... drivers and it's always the motorist getting it in the neck-Cyclists are as bad if not worse.
At the end of the day if they pull in front of my car I can walk away

like i have said being a cyclist and a motorbike rider in my past you do know what to look for , just like you Les, you have that sixth sense about other road users and what they are about to do, its just that you have to make sure you have eyes looking everywhere

    Ahem.

The more observant of you will note that he has his left brake lever pulled fully on, which suggests to me that he is in fact stationary.

My son has passed his cycling proficiency test, and I've made sure that he has a good set of lights, which he DOES use.
Not all cyclists are hooligans or 'non-people'. Some are nice kids with worried parents.

I think to be fair in a city like York which has zillions of cyclists they observe the rules better,In Harrogate they are pretend cyclists complete with all the posh gear but NO LIGHTS,BRAINS,COMMON SENSE ETC ETC.

I never had a bike in Harrogate, because my folks lived in the lowest-lying part of Knaresborough, and you know what that means Les....a blinkin great big long HILL.

    It was easier to walk.
