Post Saltires Flown At Half Mast On St Andrew's Day

Flags on municipal buildings across Scotland will fly at half mast this weekend ... in tribute to those who lost their lives when a helicopter crashed into a Glasgow City Centre pub last night.

Eight people, so far - including the three men on board the *helicopter - are known to have died when *it collided with the Clutha Vault Bar. Many more inside the premises at the time of the incident were injured - some seriously - as police, fire fighters and rescue teams continued their search amongst the debris throughout the hours of darkness, in an attempt to find possible survivors trapped in the carnage.

Football Clubs in the city observed a minute's silence before their scheduled Scottish Cup tie matches as a mark of respect. Likewise, celebrations to commemorate Scotland's Patron Saint - as well as a pre-arranged STUC anti-racist march - were cancelled ... while, tomorrow, prayers on behalf of the families affected by this tragic event, will be offered at a special memorial service to be held in the nearby St Andrew's Cathedral.

According to latest news reports available, one more body has been recovered from the wreckage in this horrific national disaster ... bringing the death toll to nine.

Goodness only knows how many are still missing.

Yes ... ... there're bound to be, Andy - since the accident occurred on a busy Friday night.

A very sad day for many Scots. My thoughts go out to the families who suffered loss and to those injured.
