Hi,
Has anyone done this B1 recently here in the UK? I have tried a few test centres but they said I have to take the course...I really don't know. Do I really need to take the course or just take the test? Please people, help me...

Hi Jane! There are some test centres that requires you to take the course then take the test. I reckon it depends on the english test you are opting to take.
My only advise is visit your nearest college and ask them about what english test they offer that is approved by the ukba.

Yeah, i know. Nuissance innit? Like me, i am taking the course now at our local college and like what you want to happen i want to finish this lark this year so i jumped on the course. You might also find that the term has started september on colleges so youre too late to enrol yourself in a course thats why they said early next year. Just keep searching you might be lucky and if taking the course is your last option or if its the most convenient for you then you have got to do it. Keep us posted anyway.

If you want to take IELTS, there is one Test Centre in Southampton. Give them a ring on what procedure they have.
http://www.ielts.org//test_centre_se...5-e216175bf5c2
Or visit this site
http://www.ielts.org/test_centre_sea...h_results.aspx ...
... to see if there is a Test Centre for IELTS that is very near you. You've got to be quick though - because, as far as I know, they only do 2-3 exams per month. Give them a ring.

Page 17 of the PDF file you will see the minimum score that UKBA requires for IELTS and its level.
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/si...lish-tests.pdf
For instance if your IELTS Band Score in four components is 4.0 then the level you achieved is B1. You need to get at least 4.0 on all four components and not below four. If you go below 4.0 - then you have to take the test again.

No. The only acceptable document is a pass certificate at B1 level and above from those listed here in
Approved secure English language tests
Even if your certificate is now expired it's fine as long as it's on the list.
