Sir Michael Wilshaw, the Ofsted chief inspector, said the city had declined dramatically from being the “powerhouse of the nation” to the “fourth division” in the wake of a string of child scandals.
He said social problems in the city were now so bad that it compared unfavourably with communist Cuba, and parts of Eastern Europe.
And he suggested that the city council, the biggest local authority in England, might have to be broken up to tackle the affects of a “failure of corporate governance on a grand scale” dating back decades.

No doubt Andy and Jamie will comment but I guess there's not a lot going for the place................. run by a Socialist Council pandering to islamic ghettos like Alum Rock and Sparkbrook

Moved to Birmingham in the late nineties but I must admit I preferred it then to what it's like today.
Know Sparkbrook very well. I used to drink in the pubs down there frequently but not so much now. The area is deprived but it wasn't as bad as people made out although since the Somalians have taken over a large part, it's not as safe as it was.

I agree Birmingham is a disgrace but according to the local radio stations its the best thing since sliced bread. . But then again I dont think London is the best place in the world either from what I have heard.

My missus read that Middlesbrough was the worst place to live before she got here according to some sort of bigots who made a tv documentary about it 5 years ago.
They showed the dilapidated areas but forgot to mention the £1 million pound homes that we also have here.
When she arrived she couldn't believe what a beautiful place we live in even though my home is just worth over a tenth of that

I visited Middlesbrough once. I left within the hour.

You are quite right matey. Areas of the East end of London resemble downtown mogadishu or Bangladesh these days. Successive governments have succeeded in turning parts of our capital into Ghettos.
I believe Park lane and Hyde Park are next on the list for our new found friends from the East who arrive in January
