to read that, Rhaich; ... haven't really heard of 'DextroScoliosis' myself ... but I am sure Doc Alan can advise about the *condition, pain relief and *its implications (if any) when thinking of starting a family. Also consult your GP.

Take Care ... and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Rhaichard, you must go and see a GP I'm sure if you do, it will put your mind at rest because you will be in good hands and be able to get it sorted out. Please keep us posted, I'm sure you'll be fine!

I’m sorry to read of your condition Rhaichard.

The definition is easy – it’s a side-to-side ( curve ) of the spine, either to the right ( dextro- ) or left ( laevo- ). In most cases the cause is unknown, and it’s commoner in females.

Only a very small proportion require treatment ( surgical correction, if there is marked curvature or pain ) , and it’s not usually associated with other conditions.

Good general physical fitness, exercise and massage all help.

It really is vital, as Arthur and Michael have said, and in my opinion, to register with a doctor ! Your GP is best placed to advise you, and if necessary refer you to an orthopaedic specialist at your hospital.

There is a facebook site for Filipinos with this condition – but please remember you may well only have a mild degree of dextroscoliosis, and indeed it may not be the cause of your back pain.

    Hi there Rhaichard,

You mentioned that you thought your condition cld have something to do with not getting pregnant..I wouldn't know about that but, what my wife and i did to get prego asap was...get an ovualtion monitor, you ll be surprised the amount of women who dont ovulate when the book says so....my wife didnt until her 20th day and that was on both pregnancies....the monitor we got actually told you when to go at it and for how many days, twice a day.....Ł80 well spent

You both give up coffee and alcohol, at least until you are carrying

    Good luck to you both

Hi rhaichard, I'm so sorry to hear about your condition. From a physio's point of view, generally scoliosis doesn't prevent women from conceiving, not that I'm aware of or experienced. I haven't encountered any patients yet who ever had problems conceiving apart from having more back pain compare to those who doesn't have scoliosis. There are exercises for the back both stretching and strengthening but it depends on the degree of curvature and which part of your spine is affected. As what the other members have said, it is essential for you to register and consult a gp to know specifically where the pain is originating from and the cause of it. I understand how uncomfortable it is but you really need to get it sorted. Saves you from worrying. All the best and hope your back gets better soon.x

I was going to advise you to do regular back exercises, you can buy those simple sit up rockers for less then Ł20.
However, please don't listen to my advise or anyone else's with the exception of Doc Alan, until you've registered with your GP. My exercise advise may be good, but it could end up making the situation worse (I am not a GP). The only person you should take advise from is your GP, they are there to help and advise and there is nothing to be scared of.
Please go and register as soon as possible, the weather is getting colder so you'll end up in more pain. It could be a simple case of taking some muscle relaxants to ease the pain.
One thing that I will guarantee is that once you have registered, you'll come away thinking what was I scared for I should have done that months ago.

me too, can't stand the things I look away when they give me an injection or even worse take blood. Silly thing is that most of the time the doctor says, there all done and I didn't even realise what was happening. Makes me feel a right fool
Go to the doctor, get registered and I promise you'll be asking yourself what all the fuss was about when you've done it

One of the first things you should do when arriving to UK is to register at your local GP
    (medical practice)
You are fully entitled to NHS treatment.
    Please do it now

Don't worry about getting pregnant. I have a friend who has scoliosis since her teen years and now has two kids.

Like the other guys have said register asap also with a dentist as well if you haven't done so already.

All treatment under the NHS you are entitled to without it affecting your future visa applications most of it free eg: doctors appointments, hospital consultations even surgery if needed hope not

Anyway get it sorted and you will wonder what all the fuss was about.

    Take care rhaichard god bless...
