Information Thief
Hello,
I feel a bit guilty as I've posted in other forums stealing information before first introducing myself.
My name is Dennis, I am a nurse who was fortunate enough to meet my wonderful fiancee at work. We are getting married in 2 and a bit weeks, eek, and are now having all the fun of the fair of dealing with Visa's hence my visit here for help, for which I've already received. I'm sure i'll be lurking around as it's a pleasure to read in what comes across as such a pleasant community.
Dennis.

No problem. Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on the upcoming wedding. Hope all goes smoothly.
Hmm....don't think I've ever introduced myself to the forum, come to think of it.
Maybe a bit late now.

Well of course (just after I joined this forum), that was exactly my plan...overland to Hong Kong, then on to the Phils.
That's why I still have 100's of quids worth of cycling and camping gear in my spare room.
I then decided that I didn't want to be away from my son for such a length of time.
Who knows though...

Just think of the stories you could tell him though Graham!!
If you do decide to give it a try one day please start a thread before you go so that we can all follow your journey and cheer you on.
If you make it here,I might buy a bike and ride back with you...
Need to lose weight!

I decided to treat him to a trip we could both SHARE the memories of....a couple of weeks in Florida.
You're only 11 years old once, and I was only seeing him at weekends then.

I'm busy preparing a bike right now, but whether I've got enough energy to just ride it into town is a big enough challenge at the moment.

Nice pics Graham..Thanks..
Yes.. A trip like that would need a lot of practice training and a serious attitude to attain such an achievement.. Without the type of passion and dedication required its not even worth trying IMO.
At the age of 50,I doubt I`d make it to France,Let alone Afghanistan but I wish I had the guts to try that type of solo trip as a younger man when I had less responsibilities.
What do you reckon would be the safest route given the problems in today`s world?

I often wished I given a priority to that kind of adventure.
I'm not saying it's a reget. It's not. But as I get older I can see more clearly how It could have become a priority.
Bit like touring the Philippines on a motorbike. Right now I can't see it getting up there on my priorities, but it would be fun. And who knows what's in store around the corner.
I already had so many years with just myself to please. And I did!!

I think it would be a bit of a zigzag now, to be honest.
However, with the 'Eastern Bloc' now being more open, probably a northern route then down through China would be slightly safer and less hassle. I haven't checked out the latest recommendations.
You'd be surprised at the numbers of people cycling across the world at any given time. Many websites and blogs on the subject.
Probably dog attacks being the single most dangerous predicament when in Central Asia. Imperative to have a good supply of Mace/Pepper Spray.
