New requirement for ilr applicants?
Hi guys! I hope everyone is well. Has anyone of you bought the new released book of Life in the UK (A guide for New residents,3rd edition)?
I have some question since I am not sure if I understood it right and I just am concern since it could probably affect every one of us who will be applying for the ILR in the future. Let me share with you some part of the first chapter of the book:
BECOMING A PERMANENT RESIDENT
To apply to become a permanent resident or citizen of the UK, you will need to:
- Speak and read English
- Have a good understanding of life in the UK.
There are currently (as of January 2013) two ways you can be tested on these requirements:
- Take the Life in the UK test.
- Pass an ESOL course in English with Citizenship.
-
This part actually caught my attention:
From October 2013, the requirements will change. From that date, for settlement or permanent residence, you will need to:
• Pass the Life in the UK test
AND
• Produce acceptable evidence of speaking and listening skills in English at B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference. This is equivalent to ESOL Entry Level 3
My question is:
Does it mean before we can apply for ILR we must pass the LIUK Test AND pass the new requirement Language test (CEFR at B1 Level) which is like the English Language Test only at A1 level that we took when we first applied a settlement visa to get here in UK?
If so, it would just only mean one thing then: Another cost on top of the visa fee! Am I right? Can someone enlighten me with this please? Thanks!
