My daughters birth certificate/applying for visa

    Hello - can anyone help?

I got married in the Philippines in October and my wife gave birth to our daughter in December. We registered the birth at the city hall, however the NSO in Butuan say that the birth certificate will take 6 months- One year to arrive!! Is this right? I was hoping to bring my wife and daughter over to uk on a spouse visa in August. But we can't apply until my daughter has her passport, which will be dual?

My wife has just applied for her passport.

I need the birth cert to arrive before JUly.

Should the birth certificate take this long?

It depends who you are paying, and how much.

Sounds like some financial lubrication may be required/fixer used...IF that time period is correct and there is no quicker way of doing it.

I'm sure my ex took the (provincial) birth certs of her kids up to the NSO in Manila to have them converted to 'blue paper' ones, but that was a long time ago.

I think that sounds crazy and someone just wanted you out of their office or doesn't know their job. My son was born on November 18th 2011 and had his birth cert within a week. We did all the paperwork and had his British Passport returned to us by the beginning of Feruary 2012. Didn't even give any under the table money. I would go to see the top mamager and don't leave until there is action.

Sadly it can take that long and time limits do vary from region to region. With a bit of luck you should get it quicker than the 6 months they quoted.
If the certificate is still with the local NSO office in Butuan you can request a copy and do the registration yourself. Would take days this way rather than months.
Are you here in the Philippines?

Update... spoke to somebody earlier who works for our local NSO office. Related to the wife so wasn't during office hours.
She said that it probably wont take longer than 3 to 4 months as the system is better (supposedly) than before. You could have requested faster processing when the document was originally transferred from the hospital to the local NSO office.
If by chance the document is still with the local NSO office you can request a copy on yellow security paper and do the whole process yourself. This would involve going to the NSO head office in Quezon city.

    There's no dual passport.
A person can have dual citizenship, which entitles them to have a passport from either or both of the countries of their citizenship

Thanks for your help... I ' m not in the Philippines at the moment. We registered the birth at municipal hall in Butuan in January.

I'm hoping to apply for spouse visa at the end May - with a view for my family to come over in August.

However, I assume this will have to be out on hold if I can't get the birth cert in time?

You should have the birth certificate by May.

Take a look at this as it may help.

Let your wife file for the advance endorsement in the local registrars office (butuan) for the speed up of the birth certificate for your child.
and please check my new thread about it.

My daughters Birth Certificate has arrived! My wife spoke to a lady in the local Municipal hall. She made a few phone calls, and the birth cert, magically arrived a few weeks later!
