Comet retailer to go into administration
Around 6,500 retail jobs are at risk after electrical chain Comet confirmed that it will be put into administration next week.

More sad news for the high street.
I bought a washing machine off them about 18 months ago and they flogged me a policy for £4.49 a month that repairs the machine if it breaks down or replaces it if it is beyond repair. Guess I'll have to check how that stands now as I'm sure they'll continue to take the money.

WOW. We have just had a branch of PCWorld / Curries open up here. I guess they must be doing something right.

See the articles right. Shares in PC World/ Currys jump 15% as the investors speculate that a major competitor will be removed from the market.
I'm sure the same thing probably happened when JJB sports went bust. Sportsworld and JD sports shares probably jumped.
We're in the wrong business

In one of our many out-of-town retail parks we had an outlet of Comet, Curry's, PC world and Staples. All within a 1 minute of each other.
Just in the past few weeks Staples moved to a smaller unit, PC world has closed (and that unit is empty) and Curry's is now called Curry's /PC World
We have no Dixons but I understand that retail-wise it's doing better business now.

Shame for the employees, but if they're having a sale I need a new Xbox.

Dixons, PC World & Curry's are all part of the same group http://www.dixonsretail.com/dixons/en/aboutus/ourbrands personally I'd rather see these spivs go to the wall than Comet

Elsewhere it could be the end of the traditional Black Cab unless someone steps in to buy Manganese Bronze. Hardly surprising now that Mercedes are in the market. German reliability or Hugely over priced poorly made British version who have been ripping cabbies off for years.
