I think it should be like it was when I were a lad i.e. football, rugby, gymwork with cricket and athletics in the summer. I am sure we had more than 2 hours per week??

Indian dancing can be just as energetic as exercise
Horlicks (spelling isn't my strong point!)

I've seen those specialist Sky channels, Indian dancing is a bunch of guys, with expressions on their faces like they are constipated, doing a dull version of an Irish jig, wearing a full pantone chart of clothes in a ruined temple

Traditional British/European/hell - African (but not Australian because they're crap at sports nowadays) sports like footie, rugby, athletics, hockey even is way superior.

There's a place for dance.........and it's not in place of PE, though there's better less boring dance to do, I suggest breakdance for that 80's retro ghetto feel - can then for the full affect have BMX to a Duran Duran track.

    Hey cross country was great.

Having to do it in football boots because I forgot trainers, then with our games teacher there would be a hierarchy

    1. Those fit enough would pace away with the teacher, and take regular rest stops.

    2. Those not over fit would panting eventually catch up, and these were the ones who really needed the rest stop for 2 mins - but soon as they arrived, the over fit ones would pound away leaving the others near having a heart attack.

    3. Leading the rear would be Shazza and Kevin regarding the whole thing as an extended fag break

    Ahh those were the days

I also want to see more conventional PE re-stablished in schools from the health side of things. Even our kids are tending to be fatter these days.

Losing your plimos in the quagmire of 'boggy lane' and having to walk 2 miles back to school in your muddy socks.

Hiding in the bushes having a cig until everyone came round and then tagging on the back.

Hitching a lift....and the teacher stopping to pick you up.

I loved cross country. It was a whole hour of unsupervised clowning around. The only running we did was in and out of the school gates.

Well I went to (Grammar/Boarding) school in Richmond in the Yorkshire Dales, and it is all hills.

Maybe that's why our school did have the national schools cross country and mile champion at that time.

Bit disheartening when he's changed and gone home by the time you've finished though.

Imagine trying to give kids the cane nowadays.

If a teacher even gave the "little angel" a bad look, or dared to stop him from pitching some other pupil head first through a plate glass window, then into school would come his 38 year old gran, and his dad Wayne Chav, and............well you know the rest

Haha, they used to do that in my junior school in Pontefract....hard-case coal miner dads marching up to school to thump the headmaster.

No litigation worries in those days though, just a few burly coppers to sort things out.
