The 8th least safe airline in the world - Philippine Airlines

According to the NTSB that is - but it's better than a few others from Eastern Asia.

British Airways is ranked the 7th safest.

PAL have not had a passenger fatality since 1994; good enough for me. The NTSB database must be used with caution - the PAL figures amount to 8 incidents including three bombs on board and a hijacking.

I agree, I think the way the statistics are calculated in a way that would make it difficult to use them as an idea of how safe an airline is. The newer middle eastern airlines that are probably the safest airlines around now but don't feature and never will because its based on total flights EVER.

I have flown with Avianca in Columbia, and was horrified. I recall being in Bogata changing planes, and having no idea where to go, and eventually being bused out to this plane which was parked in such a wierd way slotted inbetween other aircraft, so that you had to move one to get the others out. There was a technician in a jeans and t-shirt hammering away at the open engine cover.... Didn't give me a lot of confidence.

Flew EgyptAir, and the cockpit door fell off on take off, nobody battered an eyelid. Was picked up and put back on its hinges after the climb.

BA might be the 7th safest ... but, judging by an experience I had, it's the least "accommodating"!

I was actually speaking to someone today who puts PAL in the same bracket as Cathay Pacific

I have come to hate Virgin Atlantic - they are as bad as BA; its Cathay Pacific for me, thanks.

At least Philippine Airlines were not the worst

I love flying in an aeroplane and nothing would put me off

Well exactly Mick, and I think it's more likely you'll get hit by a car in the Philippines then being in an air crash.

No point spending your life worrying about the most unlikely of events.
