    Shangri La Makati......Sofitel......Mariott Hotels Manila

    Hi folks,

Regarding the above hotels, whats the + and -?

We have stayed at Shang before, but wonder about the Sofitel and Mariott as both also look good

    Cheers

Nothing really comes close to the Shangri La, but the Penisular, Marriot and Ascott follow a close 2nd between them. I absolutely love the service, ambience and rooms in that place.

But in all honesty, there are so many good hotels in Manila for a much lower price. We've actually stayed at the Hyatt Hotel and Casino several times and that was fabulous at a much much lower price. There is also the Manila Hotel, which I'd love to try just for the experience and history in it.

But the reality is, what do you want out of a hotel? Somewhere to sleep for a few nights whilst you explore, or a retreat to escape from the city?

always stop at the marriott we do, we use it as part of our timeshares, but i would never pay that price, lots of places that are cheaper and remember its just a bed and bathroom thats all,

    Thanks :-)

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply and info. Yes the Peninsula is also nice, we have stayed their too. But no doubt the Shang has the edge.

Our main concern is safety then comfort and also a nice place to invite my wife's family and friends too for bonding in our room before and after City exploring.

We will be their for 10 nights.

We realise that other hotels are much cheaper, thats why I thought it would be an interesting post, as we dont want to waste money.....however, our priorities are as already stated.

I guess we will look at some of the other hotels during our vacation their this year.

Thanks for all replies and comments. We will look at the other hotels mentioned

    Cheers

Thanks, yes it does look very good and better value than the Shang. I'm very interested in it

Its a shame the Mariott is a distance away from Makati......as most of our time would be around their. Although we will go out of Makati too....but Makati is easier for my wife's friends to get too than the Mariott part of town...

    Cheers

However, the Shang is so close to various Malls too, which is an advantage also.

    Cheers

if I recall correctly, the Shangri-La is said to have been built to a better standard of earthquake proofing than the other hotels of similar vintage. That of course is just a rumour that circulates, and I cannot vouch for it. But certainly it is a very nice, comfortable, hotel.

I do like the Manila Hotel, and being in merchant shipping it makes sense for me to stay there, as there are so many relevant businesses in Intramuros, but if you will be mainly shopping and seeing relatives it is a bit out of the way, as indeed is the Philippine Plaza.

Most recently I stayed in the Pan Pacific in Malate and was very pleased with it - well worth consideration - and a good location.

Manilia Hotel is very nice and like other say has Charcter which some of the other hotels seem to lack.

But i'd go along with Ricky Suggestions the Hotel intercontential Madrin orientals and Dusits might all be a bit more naffer but if i can save enough each night to treat the family and friends more all the better plus they really would not kow the difference all of them are super luxury to them any how

For example we had a load of the cousins while fairly youngish stay at the Intercontential they loved it and the staff treated them like royalty would they know the difference between that and the Shangri la I doubt it
Oh lord why did you make so many clothes and shoe shops
