Do You Really Want To Use Etihad?
I know this goes back to 2008, but it's the first I've heard of it

There was a lot of media censorship over this, which Etihad is very good at. One very large commercial aviation forum had legal action against it from Etihad, they released the names of the staff who were posting on it and then banned all mention of Etihad.
That being said, having flown with them quite a lot and holding Gold status, they are one of my favourites and have a great business class.

I flew with them to the Phils in February and had no problems.
Great service and staff in fact.

I flew Etihad last June to Phils. They were good except that I had a lot of problems relating to the fact that I didnt use an agent to book with them (to cut a long story short). Other than that, nice flight and service on board, nothing like Saudi Airlines whatsoever.

Lastlid, what was your problem with flying via Etihad? I (WE) also encountered problems with this airline but I hope it IS fixed already and I won't be having problems checking in.. I am flying via Etihad on Monday to Manchester...I also booked my flight online (without an agent).. I hope I won't encounter the same problem....

The problem is hard to explain. Basically I paid Etihad directly by card. I arrived at the local airport here in the IOM to fly to the Philippines via Manchester, the night before the flight and tried to check in my baggage. Normally I could have done this. But I was told that I couldn't as the ticket was on hold by Etihad for verification. Not knowing exactly what was going on (I hadnt come across that before) I was worried about the validity of the ticket, especially as I was about to fly to the Philippines to get married - everything was arranged. I phoned Etihad and they wern't very helpful. I had to wait till an hour or so before boarding before they would verify my card against the ticket, which turned out okay but until that time I was panicking. I also had to do the same in Manchester. I couldnt, for the life of me understand why they should leave it to the 11th hour to check the validity of my purchase......I had bought the ticket weeks back.
Since then I have found out that the trick is to buy the ticket via an agent. And then no credit card is required to be shown at check in.
The flight was great, by the way.
Yours has been bought online directly without an agent? You just need to take your card with you when you check in or a photocopy possibly.
I will see if I can find RickyR's posting on this....its a good few months old now....

WOW! I think I will encounter the same problem! Dave bought the ticket online through etihad's website... I already have the E-Ticket since December 2011.
NOW here's the SOON to be PROBLEM:
I instructed Dave to send the debit card he used to book the ticket on the LAST WEEK of MARCH so it will arrive on time.. Now, Dave sent it on the first week of April via ordinary post... NOW, it hasn't arrived yet... SO I won't be able to bring the card with me, since I checked the post office yesterday and it hasn't arrived yet. I fly on Monday (supposedly) ...
So, I had Dave write an e-mail to Etihad about the case. I hope they will consider it. I have some Bank Statements with me (which I used for the visa application). I hope they will accept it as a proof that the card is Dave's and I am authorized to use it....
STRESSED to the LAST MINUTE!UKBA,UKBA I am dreading to hear from you...

I have done occasionally. On the occasion I mentioned above I was planning to go straight from work the following evening, so I wanted to offload my baggage the night before. I live close to the airport you see, so dropping off my baggage the night before should have been easy with less than 24 hours before the flight.

If the debit card won't arrive tomorrow. I have told Dave to SCAN a copy of his December-January Bank Statement where the Etihad transaction appeared (he booked it last December). I already have a letter from David explaining what happened, with all the debit card details. Do you think these could be a good substitute in the absence of the debit card?

I've flown with Etihad a few times.
As others have mentioned I find their customer service people very difficult to deal with. The last time I flew with them I was concerned that I hadn't received my tickets and my flight date was getting close. It was a major problem to find anyone to help.
I telephoned my credit card issuer to try do something about the payment but I was told nothing could be done until they had taken my payment and the flight had taken place without me getting the tickets.
Anyway the flights themselves were OK except on both outbound and inbound I was unable to choose a main meal as my choices had all gone. (I do realise that can happen on any flight)
Choose your seat positions carefully to avoid that.

My problem with Etihad was fixed. BUT, Dave had to go to Manchester Airport so he could show it to the check-in personnel and have it verified. I would recommend it, but probably, use a travel agent to book your flight so there would be less hassle. Also try Etihad's Web Check-in. There are only few people utilizing it, so you won't have to stand too long during check in...

Yep, I used the web check-in (only had carry-on bag anyway) and booked through Thomas Cook, who sent me the e-ticket a few days later.
Pity you can't check in online coming back though, as you can't choose your seats.
