    Rufforth ?

Village next to an old WW2 airfield which used to be used for motor racing, now used by Microlights...about 3 miles from me.

    He's lucky to be alive.

    Drug smuggling ? Nuff said.

I remember this story very well.
He spent a long long time in a terrible place. As said, he's lucky to be alive.

... it could be called 'Gone For A Burton'! And he could always claim he'd been "stiched-up"!

Great film based on Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness filmed in Philippines
Eleanor Coppola wife of Francis made a docufilm about the making of Apocalypse now under the title
    Heart of Darkness
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102015/
The original film was cut to 2hrs 23 mins, the redux directors cut released in 2001 lasts 3hrs23mins
Heart of Darkness relates the problems encountered in Philippines, the set being destroyed by a typhoon, endless delays, the PAF helicopters, rented from Marcos suddenly taking off mid scene to fly to Mindanao to suppress rebel activity and about Martin Sheen's supposed near death heart attack
Marlon Brando threatened to pull out of the Kurt role and Clint Eastwood was contacted as stand by for the part

Love it or hate it,Coppola certainly also helped in advancing local film making techniques

My friend was an 'extra' in it...playing one of the GIs...and similar part in 'Platoon'...and likewise in 'Return to the River Kwai' (I think that's what it was called).
