Caramac... one of my favourite childhood indulgences. Yummy !
Rolos were Mackintoshes too, weren't they.
More yummyness.
I grew up in Pontefract though, home of Liquorice Allsorts, Coconut Mushrooms, Pomfret Cakes and 'Spanish'.

Awww gross, people shouldn't eat caramac bars - they were for the kids who couldn't afford milky bars.
I fancy a right mucky curry, poppadoms, the works that's real food

Hi Jlags Yes that's the area I was thinking of. The canal is about as clean as it will ever be - you wouldn't swim in it, put it that way
The green colour isn't dirt - it's algae - plants growing in summer, because it's so full of..............well you can guess.
It's not a bad place to live though that area, though I think you need to own a car really.
Sure we can meet up, but she isn't coming over until the summer - and that might not happen, you know - visas etc. Going to see anyway.
Keep in touch, and sure you'll like it here - weather besides.

even in my younger days when it was clean enough to swim in, it wasn't unusual to swim among stolen dumped bicycles, old shop till, and the odd sack full of dead dog or puppys, floating by,
and yes the back full of leaches when you came out, your palls used to knock them off each other lol,
at least then there was no poison chemicals in the water

Aye, them wert days.
No need to go traipsing down to some namby pamby council recycling place with good honest rubbish.
Just sort out the rags and metal for the rag and bone man, collect your goldfish in the plastic bag, burn the rest on the fire or chuck it in the canal....job done. .

TWO pairs of socks ?
You WERE lucky !
In our house we could only DREAM about having socks.
We used to have to SHARE 2 left-footed wellies that my dad found on the tip, and line em with newspaper...and they leaked.

wellies you were lucky, i had to put plastic bags over mi shoes and elastic band to hold them on

Any leather had already been eaten in our house mate...and that was after we'd been next door to see if they had any spare dripping to put on it.

Hiya, yes it's fine for boating. Just near you in a little town called Sowerby Bridge, there is a marina (well, ok here it is called the canal basin, marina is a bit of a stretch, not so much millionaires as people with beards living on houseboats).
You can hire boats, or go on trips. Sowerby Bridge is the town I went to senior school in, it's changed a lot in the last 15 years.
The river (different to canal) has a canoe course. Really though, the advice of keeping your mouth closed near that water is a good one.
