Tell me more about WEST YORKSHIRE

I am flying to England in April... And I so wanted to have few friends living within Halifax area or up north so I know where to run when my fiancee turns to a whore.. (kidding)...I have found few friends from this site BUT unfortunately, they are living down south..

What interesting things could be done in Halifax and nearby areas aside from going to pubs and watching a local band? Anyone here living near? Let me know and help me overcome expected boredom..

My fiance is one dive away in Burnley Canal so we could go swimming there (hahaha)...

    See you in UK soon..
UKBA,UKBA I am dreading to hear from you...
UKBA, a BRP for Christmas will do...

York is a good place to visit. I am taking my wife there in May. Skipton and Harrogate are not so far away - nice towns. The Pennines are on your doorstep. And Blackpool and the Trafford centre are just a hop skip and jump away. For a wordsmith such as yourself, you are also in Bronte country......and I believe you can get some excellent curries in Bradford.

There are a good number of pretty towns tucked away, in the area, you are in the heart of Black Dyke Mills and Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band country and the Trans Pennine railway is close to hand.....

    Leeds Armoury and Bolton Abbey....

I used to live in Manchester so I got to know the districts near you quite well, over the years.

You must have some interesting conversations
Here you are, everything you always wanted to know about Halifax but were afraid to ask

So it might be fun.. hehe also have read about victoria theater and lastlid's eureka... I might visit there and pretend to be a 12 year old kiddo....

    As a 21 year-old Filipina, they'll think you're a 12 year-old anyway. lol

I was born in West Yorkshire...or the 'West Riding' as it was known then.

I remember taking my Filipina ex to the Haworth Steam Railway (where they filmed the movie 'The Railway Children').

We didn't realise it was only a one way ticket, so had to get a very expensive taxi back to our car.

Haworth is also 'Bronte Country' of course, and massive tourist attraction for people from all over the world....former home of the famous writers the Bronte sisters.

Maybe you will see the ghost of Heathcliff striding across the nearby moors.

GraHAM, next time you ride that steam train and realize that's only a one way ticket.. Do not be afraid to visit Dave... He will be glad to be visited.. Hahaha!

Does Eureka have ticket or free admission for kids? Do they give free candies?

Oh, the Bronte sisters... I remembered one of the questions in my Licensure Examination for Teacher is about a story written by one of the Bronte sisters.. I only know Emily for her Wuthering Heights... BUt the question was a different novel... So I still answered Emily.. And because of that, I got 79.00 rate in my English and Literature component... If only.. I would have topped the board exam... lol

To see some decent football (soccer) you will need to go to Bolton, I think, but better still a bit further south to Trafford Park. Cant include Burnley or Bradford or Leeds in that, sorry.

I took my wife to see the Liverpool FC stadium (stadium tour) and she loved it. Her request not mine.

    Hi there

I'm also living in Halifax, like Sheldon said, don't hesitate to get in touch too.
I'm currently living on my own though, my girlfriend lives away, but we're hoping to be together eventually. Be nice if she could have some other Filipenas to chat to.

Canal? Don't be jumping into that - it isn't so clean!

Things to do in Halifax, well it's not so bad a place really - if you can get used to the weather. There's a few crazies, but probably no worse than anywhere else. Everyone here tends to criticise the place.

Sure you'll love the shopping centres, Halifax is a bit of a pit for shopping, but travel a bit and it's great.

Burnley Road, but near the canal you say? I think I know where that must be, it's a bit out of town - and that isn't a bad thing!

    OI!
No, you only need go as far as Huddersfield
Though the local FC Halifax have actually been winning games the last couple of years. Used to be that the only thing they could win was the toss.

Hebden is the centre of all weirdness - and I mean that in a sort of affectionate way. It's changing though, because the property prices are pricing out all the "alternatives" who made Hebden the place it is - they're tending to move over Tod way.
Hebden Bridge though is certainly an offbeat place, Halifax is normal by comparison. Think league of gentlemen meets woodstock meets gay pride week, and you're half way there. The sort of place a man with a huge bushbeard, wearing shorts and sandals could ride a bicycle with a basket on the front through - and no-one would bat an eyelid at.
