err no like petitions written on paper they have to have an end date when they can be closed off and submitted. It was a total waste of time as it was a petition against a "proposal" and only 133 people saw fit to "sign" it.

You could always tweak the wording and start a new one - I'll second it

What income increase these are proposals ?

See my post 177 lobby your MP, start by asking him/her why there are no income restrictions on a citizen from another EU country working here bringing his non EU spouse to UK

Hi dedworth yeah I read about that if you hold an eu passport you have no problem to bring your wife into the uk but since we in the eu we should also have that right to bring our wife in the uk aswel.

I confused when it comes to imigration law and eu law. I have also heard about people in the eu entitleed to our NSH and benifits not sure if this is true.

This whole country is getting to be 1 big joke specially with imigration.

Never a truer word spoken Zaxy - good luck but I would feel about getting an appointment with your MP and laying your concerns on the line

With all due respect what figure would you like?

My point is this £26k is not that much money to earn these days and anyone bringing in a spouse to live here in the uk with them needs to be able to prove they can support her
I actually think that 26k is on the low side

Ok Ok..... you can have your 5 minutes of fun. Looks like you are here just to wind people up. Lets see how it pans out, but remember you can go just as quick as you arrived.

I am fortunate that I am the right side of that figure. But I can see that it is a little unfair. I tend to think there is a better, fairer and lower happy medium there somehwere.

Yes, except that you WON'T necessarily need to support your SPOUSE anyway, as they are permitted to work from day one.

Does your wife go out to work....or tied to the kitchen sink ?

I am not here to wind anyone up actually, i was just giving another side of the debate

I have been down this road myself in the past and have had many a fight with immigration

I stand by my last last post 26k is on the low side for someone about to bring another person to reside in this country

Well she will not be able to work from day 1 because she will need to apply for a national insurance number first and finding work is not so easy now in the uk

They have to settle on some figure, i would suggest 26k is not enough to support 2 people living in a town like London

well if 26k in your opinon is not enough to support 2 people, then maybe you should be telling the gov this and asking them to increase the minimum wage to your figure

do you have a figure that should be applied to Europeans in the UK wanting to bring their spouse?

also what about the earning potential of the spouse, my wife earns double what i earn, in a few years she will earn 4 times what i earn

why should there be a minimum figure, if the British partner is entitled to claim benefits, then it is their legal right to claim those benefits, and so it should be whether his wife is british, european, asian or from planet mars

I suppose that in truth, a £26000 average goes further in some parts of the country than in others, meaning that whatever the government might use as a threshold, some people would find it harder than others to keep a spouse on the same money.
