Hi Phil, and welcome to the forum from me.
I lived in AC for a few years with my family, and ran a business there, but now I might consider the Subic area too, if going back again.

And ... MOST importantly ... - as far as I'm aware - is the ONLY country in the world with its own National Health Service ... invaluable in spite its many shortcomings !!!

raised some good points there guys, but its not the health issue that sticks in my mind, but the fact that our little one was born here and has just started recepcion school and is doing well,
We want so much for her to experience her other culture but fear the longer we stay here the deaper the roots will be for her, she has more loving family in PI than she does here and cousins her own age, she has two half brothers and a sister here in the UK but dont get to see much of them as they are all grown up with families of thier own,

My (British-born) son first went to the Phils for 4 months when he was 3 months old.
Second 'trip' was from 14 months old to almost 4 years old (including a few months in Hong Kong)....then he started pre-school here in the UK.
Next 'trip' was from 8 years old to 11 years old.
Didn't do him any harm, but make sure you find a good school in the Phils.
Kids are very adaptable and thrive on new experiences, and as an ex-forces kid moving between countries, and new schools every year....I know.

thats the kind of things we want to research next time we go over,
where the good schools are and the best place to buy a lot,
Have been looking at the sbd's on google earth and getting the sister in law to go take a look on her days off, just to get some idea of prices, but will have to wait for the pound to recover a bit before we comit to anything, the exchange rate is crapola

About the Land (buying of), there will be those on here who will disagree with me, but personally I would NOT buy anything property-related there, but rent and leave your cash earning interest here....or at least SAFE here.
If you own a house here, don't EVER be tempted to sell it to finance adventures abroad. Rent it out if need be.
I would certainly do some serious research across the various Philippine-expat forums first before committing to any such ventures.

get where you coming from graham, as for a house here, huricane julie sorted that out big time
Have been a member of a couple Pi forums for the last four and a half years, heard all the downsides and upsides,
truth is i could never own my own house here again to but in the phils it is possible, and yes i know it will all belong to the wiffy and the little one before it could ever be mine, but as i see it they are both more than worth it,
