help with home office and child support
hi everyone...i know it has been a long time...but super busy but super happy...
our son has started school, my wife is still working..and so am i..
but two questions...
!. me and my wife have bought a house and moved in 2 months ago...
do we need to inform the home office of a change of address?....i am thinking it is yes!
2 second question is more complicated...my stepson . i have always been resentful of the fact that his father has never given him or my wife any support...my wife worked 14 hour days to pay for everything...while the father(american)...did nothing from day one...except walk away!!...as far as i know..he is back in america..my question is...can we make him responsible?....i believe he owes my wife and son a lot...my wife has paid thousands of ££££ in education medicine food and all the other stuff...not to mention the emotional support..can we make that guy culpable??...would it be worth while pushing for child support and have it back paid to my wife and son??...i am not greedy...it is not my money...but it is not his money either...any money belongs to my wife and son!!..but not even the money....he should man up!! and grow a set!!>..
any advice??...
p.s....it is not about money to us....it is about responsibilty!!POWER TO THE PEACEFUL. MABUHAY IRELAND AND PHILIPPINES

Not sure about informing the Home Office.
As regards Feckless Father Bazooka Joe - I suspect you'll just have to live with it

First step is to trace the reckless father, and then you can chase up the payments. There are agreements between the UK and the USA for claiming child welfare (there is also a system in place between the Philippines and the UK), you will probably need an experienced lawyer at that point. I'll have a look for the website that has info on it.

Unless regulations have recently changed (which I doubt) there is no requirement to inform UKBA when you move.
We had 4 different addresses within 2 years when we came here and di not inform the HO. Never expected any issues and never had any issues.
Your 2nd question is totally outside my experience. But I feel I would be careful about forcing him to become involved. Who knows what he would legally have rights to!!!
On balance, if it was me, I'd say let sleeping dogs lie.
No offence mate

why should you let it anger you, you have his wife, you have his son, what more can you want, dont let that anger eat you away, you risk presssure on you family, you want to risk spoiling it,
dont get me wrong , hes an ass for not supporting his son, but look its his loss

having step kids myself , like most posters on here, i'd forget it and with a bit of luck your stepson will never ask about him and he'll not come back into his life
move on and leave him in the past where he belongs.. the last thing you want is for him to start having contact with him after years of not giving a damn and causing problems.
are you claiming child benefit and tax creds ?

not claiming anything at all!!...
but i do not want people to think belfast_dude is thinking about money....i am not!!...i am thinking about honour....if my stepson wants to see his dad...i will never stand in his way...but i resent the father....and hold nothing but hate for him!!!... and am angry that my wife had to work14 hours..7 days...to pay for everything...look after him....tend him when he was ill....buy his meds....put him to bed...get him up for school.....feed him.....all while the father did nothing!!..
i would love to hear him say sorry....sorry to my wife....sorry to my stepson!!!!...that would be a start!!!Last edited by belfast_dude; 19th September 2011 at 21:06. Reason: spelling error
