I'm not really into big film scores or soundtracks that are made up of pop songs. I'm a synth/keyboard player in my spare time and love anything that's original and atmospheric. Some of the best pieces of music I've heard are on documentaries rather than films. A lot of the space type documentaries have wonderful ethereal soundtracks

Didn't realise you were a musician Englishman.

My boy plays keyboards and synth, as well as guitar in his band.
I even dabble myself a bit on the keyboard.

I bought him an Alesis analogue synth last Xmas, and he has it linked to his laptop of course...creating some great sounds too.

    I keep it quiet

Back in the mid 80's I was bass player in a Gothic/Punk band when I was at college. I gave it up for about 10 years ago then bought a keyboard and started Midi sequencing with a Yamaha keyboard but got frustrated with the basic GM/GS/XG soudsets so I bought a Roland Digital Sampling Sytnth and later a Novation Anologue modelling synth so I could record WAV (audio) files and sample/sequence them in Steinberg Cubase. I gave up after my kids were born, but about 6 months ago decided to dust them off and have another crack at it

The Alesis synth your son has should make some great sounds, I love the richness and infinite tweakability of analogue synths

I don't take what I do too seriously, and am more into the sequencing and production side of my music.....on account of my limited playing ability

    Hi Englishman.

I've had to pass some of your reply over to my son for translation.
He's doing Music Tech at A-level, amongst other things, and can read and write music, which I suppose is useful at times.

Nowt wrong with Goth and Punk.
Had I been from that generation I'm sure I'd have been well into that.

We like music in our (detached !) house...loud as you like, and any genre.

Good for him if he's studying it I hope he manages to find a career in the music biz I can't read music, the beauty of sequencing in midi is that you just put marks on a pattern and play it back, if it sounds crap you move a few marks around until it sounds ok If I play the synths, I cheat too and use the arpegiators and multitude of controls to change the sound and pitch

We love music too, my 8 yr old bought me Guitar Hero for the Playstation about 5 yrs ago, and ever since then he's loved rock/guitar music. His favorites are:
Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple
Stairway to Heaven - The Zep
    One - Metallica
In the end - Linkin Park
He also likes a lot of the epic house/electronic stuff I listen to like Faithless, The Prodigy, banco de Gaia, Future sound of London, pendulum

If I can't teach him anything else, at least he has a great taste in music

We don't need a TV in house and wouldn't miss it if it went, but take away our music

Looks like we all share the same tastes...including Faithless and Pendulum.

My boy loves Led Zep, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath too.

I've been a life-long Hendrix fan. In fact only yesterday I copied this track to CD, as it was one I didn't have, and sound quality on this is superb:

    Sure.

Perhaps you guys on here will understand one of the aspects of Filipino life that I love.

The way every aspect of life there seems to be accompanied by music, dancing and laughter.
